Kwame Harris-T- 49ers Feb. 28 - 12:59 pm et

The Sacramento Bee is hearing that the Raiders have interest in free agent OT Kwame Harris.

Harris has highlight reels of his missed blocks on YouTube, but in this market, anyone with untapped talent will get a multi-year deal. The Raiders need a replacement for LT Barry Sims, preferably sooner than later.

Alex Smith-QB-49ers Feb. 28 - 5:16 pm et

The 49ers picked up a clause in Alex Smith's contract that will keep him with the team through 2010.

Had the team not picked up the clause, Smith would have become a free agent after this season. GM Scot McCloughan made it out to be a sign of faith in Smith, but from what we understand of Smith's complicated contract, he would have gotten the money one way or another. He'll still compete with Shaun Hill for the starting job.

Jonas Jennings-T-49ers Feb. 28 - 5:36 pm et

The 49ers say they will bring back LT Jonas Jennings in 2008, but he'll have to compete for a job.

They could still easily give Jennings the axe if his offseason doesn't go smoothly. The injury prone 30-year-old is not a locker room favorite.

Michael Robinson-RB-49ers Feb. 28 - 7:05 pm et

49ers signed RB Michael Robinson to a three-year extension through 2012.

He has a ways to go before being the every-down option his skill set says he might, but is doing his best early-career Terrell Davis impression. He's already the Niners' best special teamer. Robinson averaged 4.7 YPC in 2007 and barring a DeShaun Foster signing, will be Frank Gore's handcuff this year.

Free agent moves right after FA started:

The 49ers wasted no time hitting their free-agency shopping list. They agreed with Vikings linebacker Dontarrious Thomas to a two-year deal and allowed Lions quarterback J.T. O'Sullivan to be re-united with new 49ers offensive coordinator Mike Martz by agreeing to a one-year, $645,000 contract. The 49ers also locked up a two-year, $1.8 million deal with former Panthers halfback DeShaun Foster and a one-year, $870,000 deal with kick-returner/cornerback Allen Rossum.

Not sure I totally understand the signing of Foster :?

49ers sign DeShaun Foster for two years

49ers signed RB DeShaun Foster to a two-year, $1.8 million contract, according to ESPN's John Clayton.

At this extremely low price, Foster isn't guaranteed anything, although he's the heavy favorite to backup Frank Gore in front of Michael Robinson and Thomas Clayton. Since he can play all downs solidly, Foster will make a fine handcuff for Gore, but nothing more.

Justin Smith-DL-Bengals Mar. 1 - 10:29 am et

The 49ers signed DE Justin Smith to a six-year, $45 million contract.

It includes $20 million in guaranteed money. The run-stopping end didn't make it to Minneapolis after all, but he did get his $7 million annually.

Kwame Harris-T-49ers Mar. 3 - 11:52 am et

In addition to the Jaguars, Bucs, and Raiders, the Broncos are reportedly interested in free agent OT Kwame Harris.

Harris was nothing short of a bust in San Francisco, but is athletic enough to play in a zone-blocking scheme. He was visiting Jacksonville on Sunday.

Takeo Spikes-LB-Eagles Mar. 12 - 7:22 pm et

Free agent Takeo Spikes will visit with the 49ers on Thursday, according to NFL Network's Adam Schefter.

Spikes would likely move inside in San Francisco's 3-4 scheme and compete with Dontarrious Thomas, Jeff Ulbrich, and Brandon Moore at the TED spot.

Isaac Sopoaga-DL-49ers Apr. 7 - 12:13 pm et

The 49ers will use Isaac Sopoaga at defensive end this season.
There isn't much IDP value to be had on the Niners' defensive line, but they'll have their best three (Justin Smith at RE, Sopoaga at LE, and Aubrayo Franklin at NT) in the starting lineup. WILB Pat Willis will be well protected.
