Darrell Jackson-WR- 49ers Mar. 5 - 6:02 pm et

49ers GM Scot McCloughan anticipates Darrell Jackson starting in 2008.
Jackson caught only 46 passes in 2007, but the 49ers' offense can only improve. He'll probably stay at split end opposite Isaac Bruce. McCloughan mentioned Ashley Lelie, Arnaz Battle, and Jason Hill as candidates to be the third receiver. Mike Martz could give the speedy Hill a long look outside.

If they don't improve the O-line I don't think it will matter who starts :?

Seeing DJax get dropped is a bit ironic. Sure, playing on a horrendous offense with poor QB and OC performance didn't help.

I like the idea of getting rid of DJax, but it's not all on the up and up.

I don't like the double-speak with McCloughan saying DJax is a starter one week, only to drop him the next. I much prefer knowing where I stand with another person - no need for double-speak. If I were a player, that wouldn't be a thing I wanted to see and could be off-putting to perspective additions.

Also, the timing is bad. Why drop DJax so soon? Keeping him around would have put pressure on the other WRs. Plus, couldn't we have at least gotten something for DJax with the draft coming up, at least a 7th rounder?

It's done now though.
