If that's the angle then it's because the team under their watch has been a tire fire and the potential for this to turn into an AB sorta thing is very real. Because Odell knows his bosses don't know what they're doing. Think about that. You're getting lost in the minutiae and aren't accounting for the bad situation being a direct effect from their own terrible decision making, lack of foresight, and overall awful plan.
As much as I love Peppers the Browns are going to replace him fairly easily in free agency and given the contract structures on the team he wasn't going to be a priority to re-sign in a couple years anyway. So they got the #17 pick, which by all accounts will be after the round 1 tier drop, and a mid round pick that a competent team could use but for an incompetent one isn't any different than a day 3 dart throw. For arguably the best young(ish) WR in the game.
