Did the text messages just ask for release, or did they say end the contract? If it didn’t say “give up the guaranteed money” it’s an easy victory.

You’ve got to work and honor the contract to get the money. So no, not an easy victory. If players were allowed to do this , that would create a giant loop hole in the system.
