If the Jets beat the Bengals earlier this year they would have had a chance to get into the playoffs this week. They blew an opportunity to lose to a Bills team in a must win game that is resting their starters and crush my soul. Oh what could have been.

Asked Monday if Le'Veon Bell will remain the Jets' 2020 starter at running back, coach Adam Gase replied "ask (GM Joe Douglas) tomorrow."
Gase's open antagonism to his high-dollar running back has been close to unprecedented. Although Gase did give Bell the requisite work this season — the 27-year-old averaged 16 carries and 21 touches — the coach has taken every opportunity to make it clear he was not in favor of Bell's signing by ex-GM Mike Maccagnan. Gase made a big show of throwing Bell under the bus when he was ruled out against his will in Week 14 then went bowling. Bell, of course, had a miserable year running behind the Jets' horrendous offensive line, averaging a career-worst 3.2 yards per carry. He was made available ahead of October's trade deadline and will certainly be shopped this offseason. Cutting Bell would leave behind $19 million in dead money while freeing up just $3.5 million. It's not a good situation.

it's going to be a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnng off-season

I envy the Browns. They are admitting their mistake after one season and making a change instead of kicking the can down the road in hopes of a miracle, see Jets/Gase.

I have to wait until 2021 to pretend to be excited about my team again.

Until then, Go Ravens!

I'm spending this post season rooting for either of the Ravens or Titans. I'd be cool with the Chiefs winning too. But honestly, as long as the Titans beat the Patriots, I'm good with anyone.

I for one am shocked - SHOCKED - that such an upstanding individual like Manish wrote about Gase creating a fake burner account, asked Gase about it, then that burner posts an unrelated Manish article, deletes it, then the same article gets posted by Manish, and the burner account nukes itself.

With that said, contrary to Adams’ bombastic response after the trade deadline fiasco, beat writers I trust reported that Adams was more than happy to be traded if it could have happened, mainly to Dallas. He has no ties to this coaching staff (although he loves Gregg Williams) or this GM, the owner has been MIA, so other than being in the biggest media market, I’m not sure what else New York has to offer. They are at least 2 years away from being a playoff contender and that’s only if Douglas knocks this draft and free agency out of the park so it can set up the next coaching staff in 2021. Sadly, for this offseason to be successful they are going to need as many picks as they can get and the best way to do that is to trade an asset at his peak, and that’s Adams.

just reposting my above thoughts from the 2020 draft thread

Jamal Adams wants a contract extension, and his representatives and the Jets have begun talks, the All-Pro safety said.

“They’ve talked about it, no numbers yet,” Adams said Wednesday, via Brian Costello of the New York Post. “I’d be lying if I said I don’t expect to be extended. I do because of not for what I’ve just done on the field, but even off the field for what I’ve done for the organization. I’ve done everything they’ve asked me to do. I’ve done it at a high level each and every year. I’ve proven that I’m the best safety doing it right now.”

Adams, 24, is eligible for a contract extension after completing his third season. With two Pro Bowls and an All-Pro nod, Adams has outplayed his rookie deal, which is set to pay him $3.5 million in 2020.

“I’m not trying to be paid just to be the highest-paid whatever,” Adams said. “I’m trying to get paid for my status and what I’ve done. That’s what I’m about.”

The Bears signed Eddie Jackson to a four-year, $58.4 million contract with $33 million guaranteed earlier this month. Jackson’s $14.6 average per year is the highest for a safety.

“I’m happy for him,” Adams said. “I told him after the Pro Bowl he deserved it. Like I said, I’m not competing to be the highest-paid safety. I’m competing within myself to get what I’m worth, my status. That’s what I’m about.”

One of the worst signings in recent memory and that's saying something. $12m cap hit just to make him go away.
