Lock has shown great upside all his career.
When he's on he's on.
When he's off he's terrible. Poor mechanics and decision-making have plagued him.
Can he be consistent? Let's find out.

"Drew Lock and Loaded" That's all it had to be. I'm done.

Good call on Lock by the way

Let’s see if he can keep it up but he’s exceeded my expectations for his first two games by far

I actually just picked up Lock in my 2QB league as insurance in case Winston (thumb) can’t go...

He's far exceeded mine as well. Let's hope he can keep it up; but I'm a bit dubious that he's corrected his mechanical inconsistency this drastically in such a short time. Stranger things have happened, though.

I mean, Matthew Stafford has never corrected his mechanical inconsistency. He's mostly made up for it with his Football IQ.

Dude slings the ball every which way he feels like, including side-arm which makes most QB coaches cringe. Also bad footwork to balance his body.

If you have arm talent you can be an NFL QB.

I get the point but Stafford has done a lot to clean up his game, particularly his footwork and I think his throwing motion too. Visible difference between him now and then.

Stafford hasn't always had good coaching but he seems to have had some at least and responded well to it.

Maybe he drifts in to old habits at some points but it is not right to say he never corrected his mechanics. He has grown a ton.

Lock will have to get good coaching and will have to be amenable if he wants to emulate Stafford.

Couldn't agree more. The current NFL MVP and "mechanical inconsistency" don't exactly mesh...when the dude is constantly whipping out the side-arm, cross-body, cross-field throws...all of which are on the money. Sure, it's not something that is coached, but that's what separates the good from the great: ones that defy logic with success

Did you look at the second link?

Stafford can throw pretty well when his line is doing well and he has time to set his feet, but when things break down he quickly reverts to bad habits and throws extremely poorly.

The Lions also invest a lot of money in their receiving corps and would probably be considered above average in receiving talent.

Most teams have figured out by now generate a little QB pressure and Stafford turns into an interception machine. Let him have a clean pocket and he'll clean you out. Good football IQ, good arm talent, horribly poor pocket presence.

Sorry, I edited it as a more recent example of how he does all the same old crap he did in 2012.

Ah!

Didn't we hear that he played all of 2018 with a back issue though?

i was only commenting on his last statement, which i bolded. I didn't look at either link.

I agree that proper mechanics = more likely to be successful

Arm talent can trump mechanics.
