GRINDERS & GAMBLES: Week 14

Grinders and Gambles is duct tape for teams in need of help. This list is for deeper leagues or for those in shallower leagues who are picking up players in free agency after waivers have run.

  • Grinders are the guys that will get you some points. They may not have an upside but they will grind out 5-15 depending on your scoring.
  • Gambles can get you a goose egg but also have tremendous upside.

We are heading towards playoffs and if you are still working the wire you are either fighting for a spot or preparing for the end of season. Playoffs are upon us. For some of you, this week is about the final fight for a playoff spot. For others playoffs have begun. Either way, this is the time to prepare if you are moving on and act as a spoiler if you are out of contention.

GRINDERS
Josh Allen, Buffalo – Allen has been racking up points and should have a grinder floor next week against the Jets. He threw two touchdowns last week but keep in mind he also threw two interceptions. If your leagues interception penalties are particularly prickly, perhaps peruse some other passers.

Marcus Mariota, Tennessee – Mariota will probably have a rough week coming up against the Jags but he has the Giants Week 15 if you can make it through week 14.

Spencer Ware, Kansas City – This is probably only a legit option for leagues that only run waivers. Ware stock shot up with Kareem Hunt potentially searching for a new profession.

Justin Jackson, Los Angeles Chargers – Jackson is my favorite add for the week and should disappear off the wires in dynasty leagues. He had a nice week this week and the Bengals are a great matchup. If Gordon is healthy just move Jackson down to gamble status as he still may get carries against the woeful Bengal defense in relief of Gordon.

Dante Pettis, San Francisco – Injuries have given Pettis the chance to show off his abilities and he has stolen the spotlight. His next few games are tough and he may have earned more attention from fantasy owners and he most certainly has earned more attention from defensive coordinators.

Curtis Samuel, Carolina – Samuel has stepped up for a receiver needy Panther team. He has the Browns and Falcons during playoffs and can help a fantasy team plagued by injuries or underperforming receivers.

Chris Herndon, New York Jets – Herndon has been a low end grinder all season and should continue to see targets regardless of whether it is McCown or Darnold under center.
