“Grinders and Gambles” is waiver wire duct tape for teams needing to go a little deeper on wires. Grinders are the guys who will get you some points. They may not have an upside but they will grind out 5-15 points depending on your scoring. “Gambles” can get you a goose egg but also have tremendous upside.
(D) added Dynasty/Keeper value
Wubby Alert – Potential security blanket for a team or QB.
Both will eventually lose their jobs to the starting quarterbacks but in superflex and two quarterback leagues, both are putting up points.
Joe Flacco, Baltimore Ravens
Last week I said “I wouldn’t want to lean on him in the next two weeks” and that still holds true. He was an actual liability for both his team and fantasy teams last week. Just to put a little salt in the wound, Ryan Mallett scored the garbage time touchdown. Week 8 is a bye week nightmare and Flacco has Miami. If you are in one of those one quarterback leagues where people hoard quarterbacks he should be hitting wires. Gamble.
Jay Cutler, Miami Dolphins
That’s the Cutler we all know and love. As we all know, Miami exists to crush my hopes and dreams. We lost to the New York Jets …TO THE JETS! Sorry, where was I? Right, Cutler was Cutlering all over the place but he has New Orleans coming up. Every meme about the New Orleans defense is just a picture of a turnstile. Always a gamble.
Tyrod Taylor, Buffalo Bills
If he is still on your wire, grab him. He has a great schedule for the second half of the season.
Colin Kaepernick, Free Agent
He is on a roster in multi-QB dynasty leagues and probably on the wire everywhere else. I am not going political here, but after this weekend, the stigma that teams were concerned with may be moot. A team with a struggling quarterback may now be willing to grab him. He is worth a stash.
Chris Thompson, Washington Redskins
I assume he is long gone. The man is Kirk Cousins’ wubby so if he is there, snatch him up. Grab!
Any other Washington running back – Last man standing wins? Samaje Perine was not spectacular and hurt his hand. Rob Kelley, who is my favorite of the bunch, has busted up ribs. Mack Brown may or may not see more time this week. Anyone not named Chris Thompson has a big question mark but in deep leagues they could grind you a few points.
Branden Oliver, Los Angeles Chargers
I love Melvin Gordon but he does get banged up. Oliver may make a nice gamble/stash in deeper leagues.
Matt Breida, San Francisco 49ers
Corey Clement, Philadelphia Eagles
The Philadelphia backfield is a bit of a question mark but Clement could be nice gamble/flex.
Jamaal Charles, Denver Broncos
C.J. Anderson has taken control of the backfield but Charles could make a nice gamble week to week.
Alex Collins, Baltimore Ravens
Baltimore is a mess and Collins got some yards in during garbage time. He is worth a gamble in deep leagues.
DeAndre Washington, Oakland Raiders
Quietly grinding for points per reception leagues.
Andre Ellington, Arizona Cardinals
Ellington got the carries and the targets to make him a great grinder and flex play if he can keep it up.
