GRINDERS and GAMBLES: Week 9

“Grinders and Gambles” is waiver wire duct tape for teams needing to go a little deeper on wires.

Grinders are the guys who will get you some points. They may not have an upside but they will grind out 5-15 points depending on your scoring.

Gambles can get you a goose egg but also have tremendous upside.

(D) added Dynasty/Keeper value

Wubby Alert – Potential security blanket for a team or quarterback.

QUARTERBACK

Ryan Fitzpatrick – Still a GAMBLE for the Miami game.

Case Keenum – Desperate GAMBLE.

Josh McCown/Cody Kessler  Corey Coleman looks to be back soon. GAMBLES.

Colin Kaepernick  If he is still around, snag him as a GAMBLE in deep leagues and multi-quarterback leagues. He is playing New Orleans.

Jay Cutler – He may still be there if you need the help.

Nick Foles – Nothing says I am in a deep multi-quarterback league like going after Foles. Kansas City says Alex Smith doesn’t have a concussion. Despite several sightings of little birdies and stars circling his head after those hits, he is apparently good. If you own Smith, snag Foles. If not, there are other desperation quarterbacks you can stash like Bryce Petty or Sean Mannion. Don’t put all your shattered hopes and dreams in one basket of bench warmers.

RUNNING BACK

Kenneth Dixon – Don’t give up hope yet. GAMBLE/STASH (D).

Dion Lewis  He is going to be back soon. GRAB/GAMBLE (D).

Chris Thompson – Points per reception GRINDER.

Rob Kelley – GRINDING. Matt Jones may be healthy after the bye and the schedule isn’t fantastic. (D)

Ty Montgomery – He missed last week because of illness. He should be back this week and apparently, Knile Davis is so bad at football that no one wants him. Seriously, Green Bay cut Davis and Kansas City grabbed Bishop Sankey as a backup instead. Ty is a GRAB/GAMBLE. (D).

Knile Davis – You are in a crazy deep league and you have roster room for random players. How deep? People still own Ray Rice deep. DESPERATION STASH.

Peyton BarberMike James and Antone Smith – So it was a sad day at the office for the Tampa Bay running game. The team keeps losing players. All of these guys are DESPERATION GAMBLES to see if one emerges.

Charcandrick West – Spencer Ware does have a concussion and it is unknown if he will clear protocol. Jamaal Charles has been moved to Injured Reserve which leaves West and newly added Bishop Sankey to carry the load. Yes, that Bishop Sankey, so it isn’t like he is a threat to West’s carries. West is a GRAB/GAMBLE.

Tim Hightower – Someone is in the doghouse and his name rhymes with bark (see what I did there?) How much love Hightower will get will be interesting but he is definitely a high priority grab.

I can’t imagine Theo RiddickDerrick Henry or Devontae Booker are available in your league but if they are … GRAB.
