Grinders and Gambles: Wide Receivers

For many of us football has started again as dynasty leagues open their wires and prepare for their drafts. Over the next few weeks many leagues will have players cut to free up roster room and league owners replaced as members drop out. Now is the time to go shopping for some bargains to patch holes or snag a few lottery tickets.

Drafts are also starting now, MFL10s have started, and some of these guys can come to you in later rounds for real value.

(All average draft positions are from using a 12-man league and PPR scoring unless otherwise noted).

Markus Wheaton – Wheaton should provide some grinder PPR numbers with upside this year. He should be cheap, especially in dynasty.

Jermaine Kearse and Doug Baldwin – They don’t get the love of comparable receivers, but Baldwin can help anchor a roster and Kearse will make a nice grinder.

Michael Crabtree – A great grinder and his current average ADP is somewhere in the 8th or 9th rounds. If you have some boom/bust receivers and gambles you can add Crabtree to provide some balance.

John Brown – He should have a grinder floor with insane upside. He isn’t cheap but his 5th/6th round price may be worth it to have a great anchor on your team.

Pierre Garcon – Given Garcon’s salary and the addition of Josh Doctson, Garcon could still end up somewhere else. If not, he should provide some grinder numbers with upside. He is also in a contract year so he needs to prove himself. Considering Jordan Reed, DeSean Jackson, Jamison Crowder, and Josh Doctson are there along with Chris Thompson as a potential receiver out of the backfield, keep your expectations lower. Considering Reed and Jackson both have had injury issues in the past, there is potential for some nice upside.
