Helping Andrew Luck – Possible Trade Scenarios

The Colts’ offensive line is terrible. Keeping Andrew Luck upright and healthy has to be their #1 priority. Here are some moves they should consider that won’t cost them high draft picks that would improve their situation:

Zach Strief (RT) New Orleans Saints – Andrus Peat was the Saints’ 1st Round Draft Pick this year. They are looking rough so far and may look to towards the future as they’ll be 0-4 if they lose this weekend against the Cowboys. If they want Peat to be their RT of the future, they could ship Strief to the Colts for a late round pick. This would help the RT issue for the Colts and keep Mewhort inside at his more natural position of RG.

Will Montgomery (C) Chicago Bears – Hroniss Grassu was a 3rd Round selection in this past year’s draft in hope of being the future at center for the Bears. When the Bears lose to the Raiders this weekend and become 0-4, they will be thinking quarterback for next year’s draft. What better than to get Grassu playing time and experience to help be the staple in their offensive line when they bring in their franchise quarterback during next year’s NFL Draft. Cutler will be gone and their top-5 pick will be a quarterback to help start over in Chicago. The Colts could take this veteran for a very late round pick and add some talent to the middle of their offensive line.

Manny Ramirez (G) Detroit Lions – Travis Swanson was a 3rd Round pick in 2014 and has the potential to be a quality starter at center in the league. They also drafted Laken Tomlinson in Round 1 of the 2015 Draft and expect him to do great things. If they lose to Seattle on Monday Night and drop to 0-4, time to suit up for the future of your offensive line and make sure you have them both on the starting unit. This leaves them needing to move veteran Manny Ramirez to clear up space for these younger players. The Colts could trade for him for a very late round draft pick to also improve the middle of the offensive line with some veteran presence and experience.

Colts give up: 2 Future 6th round picks, Future 7th Round pick, possibly even some players instead

Colts offensive line after trades:

LT            Anthony Castanzo

LG           Manny Ramirez/Todd Herremens

C             Will Montgomery

RG          Jack Mewhort/Manny Ramirez

RT           Zach Strief

There is much more potential here to protect Luck than what the Colts have currently. Ryan Grigson has made moves before, I hope he realizes he needs to pull the trigger on some of these possible trades for sake of Colts’ future and Andrew Luck‘s arm.
