It’s Week 15 of the 2011 fantasy football season, which means the regular season is a done deal, and while many unfortunate souls have packed it in after a disappointing campaign, some are busily making preparations for their next matchup in the fantasy playoffs.
This late in the season the waiver wire in most Individual Defensive Player (IDP) leagues has been picked pretty bare, so the next two weeks will feature a somewhat abbreviated version of the IDP Waiver Wire here at Fantasy Sharks, while in Week 17 I’ll be taking a look at some “prospect” types of interest to owners in keeper and dynasty formats.
That said, here are some players that should be available on many IDP waiver wires that are worth targeting as we head into Week 15.
PICKUP OF THE WEEK
Jason Worilds, OLB, Pittsburgh: Lamarr Woodley’s hamstring injury has opened the door to additional playing time for Worilds, who responded in a big way in last week’s win over the Cleveland Browns, notching nine total tackles and two sacks. With James Harrison now staring at a potential suspension after a helmet-to-helmet hit on Cleveland quarterback Colt McCoy Worilds may well be in line for another start next week against the San Francisco 49ers, who have struggled in pass protection lately.
Michael Johnson, DE, Cincinnati: After drawing the ire of the coaching staff and losing his starting spot for a while, the third-year pro’s play has picked up of late, with eight total tackles and two sacks over the past two games. With a very favorable pass rush matchup with the St. Louis Rams coming up, Johnson is once again worth a look from IDP teams with a need up front.
Philip Wheeler, OLB, Indianapolis: The 2011 season has been an absolute nightmare for the winless Indianapolis Colts, but there have been a few bright spots, including the recent play of the fourth-year linebacker Wheeler. The former Georgia Tech standout now has 22 total tackles over his past three games, and IDP owners desperate for a plug-and-play option at the linebacker position would be advised to consider “Wheeling” Wheeler out.
Danieal Manning, SS, Houston: A leg injury shelved Manning for several weeks earlier in the season, but the sixth-year pro appears to have returned to form, logging 11 tackles in the Texans’ Week 14 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. Houston faces a Carolina Panthers team that has been a Top 5 IDP matchup for opposing defensive backs, so IDP owners looking for a matchup play at defensive back need look no further than Manning,
