Inside The Gamebook – Early Games Week 9

N.Y. JETS 23 – DETROIT 20

N.Y. Jets

Yards: Pass 323, Rush 110

Red Zone: 1-for-4, 25 percent (season: 10-for-24, 42 percent)

Drives: First Half: three-and-out – punt – three-and-out – three-and-out – 31-yard field goal – Braylon Edwards 74-yard touchdown. Second Half: Edwards fumble – interception on pass intended for Santonio Holmes – punt – three-and-out – punt – Mark Sanchez 1-yard touchdown – 36-yard field goal. Overtime: 30-yard field goal.

Players:

WR – Santonio Holmes: 9 Targets; 4 deep – big plays for 21, 31 and 52 yards.

WR – Braylon Edwards: 8 Targets; 2 deep – big play for a 74-yard touchdown.

TE – Dustin Keller: 5 Targets; 3 deep – big plays for 17 and 25 yards.

WR – Jerricho Cotchery: 5 Targets; 1 red zone – big play for 18 yards.

WR – Brad Smith: 2 Rush.

RB – LaDainian Tomlinson: 15 Rush and 9 Targets; 3 red zone.

RB – Shonn Greene: 10 Rush and 2 Targets; 1 red zone.

Fantasy Impact:
Cotchery may have 25 targets over the past three games, but he has only caught 10 of those targets and has only caught 46 percent of the passes he has received this year. He has not been consistent enough this year to warrant using in fantasy so far.

Detroit

Yards: Pass 240, Rush 78

Red Zone: 3-for-3, 100 percent (season: 19-for-26, 73 percent)

Drives: First Half: Brandon Pettigrew 10-yard touchdown – three-and-out – punt – punt – punt – punt – ran out clock. Second Half: Matthew Stafford 1-yard touchdown – three-and-out – Nate Burleson 2-yard touchdown – three-and-out – three-and-out – three-and-out.

Players:

WR – Nate Burleson: 8 Targets; 2 deep, 1 red zone – big plays for 15, 25, 36 yards and a 2-yard touchdown.

TE – Brandon Pettigrew: 5 Targets; 1 deep, 3 red zone – big play for a 10-yard touchdown.

TE – Tony Scheffler: 5 Targets; 1 deep, 1 red zone.

WR – Calvin Johnson: 4 Targets; 1 deep, 1 red zone.

WR – Bryant Johnson: 4 Targets; 2 deep.

RB – Jahvid Best: 16 Rush and 9 Targets; 1 deep, 5 red zone – big plays for 15, 15 and 17 yards.

RB – Kevin Smith: 5 Rush and 1 Target; 1 red zone – big play for 27 yards.

FB – Jerome Felton: 2 Rush and 1 Target.

Fantasy Impact:
Scheffler is worth considering as an addition. While he has not been producing as of late he was far more productive earlier in the season with Shaun Hill starting at quarterback. In the four games that Hill started, Scheffler had 29 targets in four games compared to 17 targets in the games Hill did not start or left the game.

MIAMI
10 – BALTIMORE 26

Miami

Yards: Pass 231, Rush 73

Red Zone: 1-for-2, 50 percent (season: 8-for-16, 50 percent)

Drives: First Half: Ronnie Brown 12-yard touchdown – interception on pass intended for Brian Hartline – three-and-out – 19-yard field goal. Second Half: three-and-out – punt – miss 46-yard field goal – interception on pass intended for Brandon Marshall – interception on pass intended for Davone Bess.

Players:

WR – Brandon Marshall: 8 Targets; 2 deep – big play for 21 yards.

WR – Davone Bess: 8 Targets; 1 deep, 1 red zone – big play for 22 yards.

TE – Anthony Fasano: 7 Targets; 2 red zone.

WR – Brian Hartline: 5 Targets; 1 deep, 1 red zone – big plays for 31 and 34 yards.

RB – Ronnie Brown: 9 Rush and 6 Targets; 2 red zone – big play for a 12-yard touchdown.

RB – Ricky Williams: 2 Rush.

Fantasy Impact:
Fasano is back in the picture with 18 targets in the past three games. Chad Pennington is set to start this week and when he was a full-time starter two years ago the position was targeted heavily. Fasano was splitting time then but still produced 454 yards and seven touchdowns. He is no longer splitting time with anyone and with Pennington starting this week he should be favored.

Baltimore

Yards: Pass 279, Rush 146

Red Zone: 1-for-7, 14 percent (season: 12-for-28, 43 percent)

Drives: First Half: Willis McGahee 32-yard touchdown – 26-yard field goal – fumble on field goal attempt – 39-yard field goal – ran out clock. Second Half: Derrick Mason 12-yard touchdown – miss 37-yard field goal – 20-yard field goal – 24-yard field goal – ran out clock.

Players:

WR – Anquan Boldin: 7 Targets; 3 deep – big play for 20 yards.

WR – Derrick Mason: 5 Targets; 1 deep, 1 red zone – big play for a 12-yard touchdown.

WR – T.J. Houshmandzadeh: 2 Targets – big play for 23 yards.

TE – Todd Heap: 2 Targets.

WR – David Reed: 1 Rush – big play for 15 yards.

RB – Ray Rice: 22 Rush and 8 Targets; 8 red zone – big plays for 15, 20 and 34 yards.

RB – Willis McGahee: 6 Rush and 3 Targets; 5 red zone – big play for a 32-yard touchdown.

FB – Le’Ron McClain: 5 Rush; 3 red zone.

Fantasy Impact:
Mason is worth an addition if available. He has 190 yards receiving and one touchdown over the past three games. He will not put up huge numbers at this point in his career but he has been consistent and reliable lately and could be used as a bye week replacement or during favorable matchups.

NEW ENGLAND 14 – CLEVELAND 34

New England

Yards: Pass 224, Rush 68

Red Zone: 2-for-3, 67 percent (season: 18-for-31, 58 percent)

Drives: First Half: fumble on kickoff – three-and-out – punt – three-and-out – Aaron Hernandez 2-yard touchdown – Rob Gronkowski fumble. Second Half: punt – punt –Hernandez 1-yard touchdown – interception on pass intended for Julian Edelman – ran out clock.

Players:

TE – Aaron Hernandez: 9 Targets; 1 deep, 3 red zone – big plays for 22 yards, a 1-yard touchdown and a 2-yard touchdown.

TE – Rob Gronkowski: 8 Targets; 1 deep, 3 red zone – big play for 22 yards.

WR – Wes Welker: 6 Targets.

WR – Deion Branch: 4 Targets; 1 deep, 1 red zone.

WR – Brandon Tate: 4 Targets; 1 deep.

WR – Julian Edelman: 1 Target.

RB – Danny Woodhead: 9 Rush and 5 Targets; 1 deep – big play for 26 yards.

RB – BenJarvus Green-Ellis: 9 Rush; 2 red zone.

RB – Sammy Morris: 1 Target.

Fantasy Impact:
Gronkowski is someone to consider or at least keep an eye on if available. He has already become a red zone target and his role could start increasing. Branch has disappeared, Welker’s production has screeched to a halt without Randy Moss on the team and there has been no real consistency from the rest of the receivers.

Cleveland

Yards: Pass 174, Rush 230

Red Zone: 3-for-4, 75 percent (season: 11-for-22, 50 percent)

Drives: First Half: 38-yard field goal – Peyton Hillis 2-yard touchdown – Hillis fumble – punt – three-and-out – Chansi Stuckey 11-yard touchdown – ran out clock. Second Half: Colt McCoy 16-yard touchdown – 37-yard field goal – Hillis 35-yard field goal – three-and-out.

Players:

WR – Mohamed Massaquoi: 4 Targets; 1 deep – big plays for 21 and 22 yards.

TE – Ben Watson: 4 Targets, 2 deep – big play for 24 yards.

WR – Josh Cribbs: 2 Rush and 3 Targets; 1 deep, 1 red zone.

WR – Chansi Stuckey: 1 Rush and 3 Target; 1 deep, 1 red zone – big play for an 11-yard touchdown.

WR – Brian Robiskie: 1 Target; 1 deep – big play for 20 yards.

TE – Evan Moore: 1 Target; 1 red zone – big play for 17 yards.

RB – Peyton Hillis: 29 Rush and 3 Targets; 1 deep, 1 red zone – big plays for 15, 18, 29 yards.

RB – Mike Bell: 6 Rush; 1 red zone.

Fantasy Impact:
Massaquoi is someone to consider as a speculative play. Owners likely became frustrated and dropped him, but he has the most upside of any of the receivers on the team. Colt McCoy has not put up big numbers but the team is responding to his play and Massaquoi could have some potential during favorable matchups.

SAN DIEGO 29 – HOUSTON 23

San Diego

Yards: Pass 295, Rush: 77

Red Zone: 2-for-2, 100 percent (season: 20-for-36, 56 percent)

Drives: First Half: three-and-out – Seyi Ajirotutu 55-yard touchdown – Randy McMichael 11-yard touchdown – Ryan Mathews fumble – punt – ran out clock. Second Half: Randy McMichael 12-yard touchdown – interception on pass intended for Ajirotutu – Ajirotutu 28-yard touchdown and successful two-point attempt by Mike Tolbert – three-and-out – ran out clock.

Players:

WR – Seyi Ajirotutu: 5 Targets; 3 deep – big plays for 15 yards, a 28-yard touchdown and a 55-yard touchdown.

WR – Patrick Crayton: 4 Targets; 1 deep – big play for 47 yards.

TE – Randy McMichael: 2 Targets; 2 red zone – big plays for an 11-yard touchdown and a 12-yard touchdown.

WR – Gary Banks: 2 Targets.

TE – Kris Wilson: 1 Target.

RB – Ryan Mathews: 9 Rush and 2 Targets.

FB – Mike Tolbert: 8 Rush and 1 Target; 1 red zone – big play for a two-point conversion.

FB – Jacob Hester: 4 Rush and 4 Targets – big play for 15 yards.

RB – Darren Sproles: 1 Rush and 2 Targets.

Fantasy Impact:
San Diego is on a bye in Week 10.

Houston

Yards: Pass 266, Rush 140

Red Zone: 2-for-6, 33 percent (season: 15-for-25, 60 percent)

Drives: First Half: Arian Foster 8-yard touchdown – 27-yard field goal – three-and-out – Foster 2-yard touchdown – 21-yard field goal. Second Half: 25-yard field goal – turnover on downs at San Diego 17-yard line – punt – turnover on downs at San Diego 34-yard line – interception on pass intended for Andre Johnson.

Players:

TE – Joel Dreessen: 8 Targets; 1 deep – big plays for 20 and 24 yards.

WR – Andre Johnson: 7 Targets; 1 deep, 1 red zone – big play for 17 yards.

TE – James Casey: 6 Targets; 2 deep, 2 red zone – big play for 33 yards.

WR – Jacoby Jones: 5 Targets; 1 deep, 1 red zone – big play for 17 yards.

RB – Arian Foster: 27 Rush and 6 Targets; 12 red zone – big plays for 15, 15, 23, 33 yards, a 2-yard touchdown and an 8-yard touchdown.

RB – Derrick Ward: 5 Rush; 3 red zone.

Fantasy Impact:
Dreessen is someone to consider as a speculative play as he fills in for an injured Owen Daniels. Daniels was trying to overcome his knee injury but then he injured a hamstring. He can’t seem to get on the field and has not been practicing on the field as of late and could miss another game this week. Dreessen could benefit with a favorable matchup against Jacksonville.

CHICAGO 22 – BUFFALO 19

Chicago

Yards: Pass 188, Rush 105

Red Zone: 3-for-4, 75 percent (season: 9-for-24, 38 percent)

Drives: First Half: three-and-out – three-and-out – Greg Olsen 4-yard touchdown – miss 42-yard field goal – ran out clock. Second Half: Chester Taylor 1-yard touchdown – Jay Cutler fumble – three-and-out – Earl Bennett 2-yard touchdown and successful two-point conversion by Matt Forte – three-and-out – ran out clock.

Players:

TE – Greg Olsen: 8 Targets; 1 deep, 2 red zone – big plays for 18 yards and a 4-yard touchdown.

WR – Earl Bennett: 1 Rush and 5 Targets; 1 deep, 2 red zone – big plays for 26 yards and a 2-yard touchdown.

WR – Johnny Knox: 5 Targets – big play for 24 yards.

WR – Devin Hester: 1 Rush and 3 Targets – big play for 16 yards.

WR – Devin Aromashodu: 2 Targets; 1 deep.

TE – Brandon Manumaleuna: 1 Target.

RB – Matt Forte: 14 Rush and 5 Targets; 1 deep, 2 red zone – big plays for 22 yards and a 2-point conversion.

RB – Chester Taylor: 10 Rush and 1 Target; 4 red zone – big play for a 1-yard touchdown.

Fantasy Impact:
The coaches said they would start using Taylor more in the red zone and followed through with it by giving him twice the amount of red zone touches compared to Forte. He is someone to consider as a speculative play if available as his role could increase.

Buffalo

Yards: Pass 299, Rush 46

Red Zone: 3-for-3, 100 percent (season: 11-for-16, 69 percent)

Drives: First Half: three-and-out – punt – punt – Roscoe Parrish 14-yard touchdown. Second Half: Fred Jackson fumble – Fred Jackson 4-yard touchdown and extra point blocked – Corey McIntyre 1-yard touchdown and failed on two-point attempt – interception on pass intended for Steve Johnson – turnover on downs at Chicago 44-yard line – interception on pass intended for Donald Jones.

Players:

WR – Steve Johnson: 14 Targets; 3 deep, 1 red zone – big plays for 16, 16 and 45 yards.

WR – Roscoe Parrish: 11 Targets; 1 deep, 1 red zone – big play for a 14-yard touchdown.

WR – Lee Evans: 8 Targets; 3 deep, 1 red zone.

WR – David Nelson: 5 Targets; 1 deep, 1 red zone.

WR – Donald Jones: 2 Targets; 1 deep.

TE – David Martin: 1 Target.

RB – Fred Jackson: 8 Rush and 7 Targets; 2 red zone – big play for a 4-yard touchdown.

RB – C.J. Spiller: 7 Rush and 2 Targets – big play for 15 yards.

FB – Corey McIntyre: 1 Rush and 1 Target; 1 red zone – big play for a 1-yard touchdown.

Fantasy Impact:
Parrish is out for the rest of the season. Parrish had been targeted 31 times over the past three games, so the third receiver could hold some potential. Nelson should fill his spot and could be a speculative play.

ARIZONA 24 – MINNESOTA 27

Arizona

Yards: Pass 196, Rush 53

Red Zone: 0-for-1, 0 percent (season: 9-for-16, 56 percent)

Drives: First Half: three-and-out – three-and-out – punt – LaRod Stephens-Howling 96-yard kickoff return for touchdown – punt – Andre Roberts 30-yard touchdown. Second Half: fumble recovery on kickoff returned for a touchdown – punt – 22-yard field goal – three-and-out – three-and-out – ran out clock. Overtime: three-and-out.

Players:

WR – Larry Fitzgerald: 10 Targets; 6 deep – big plays for 17, 17 and 30 yards.

WR – Steve Breaston: 6 Targets; 2 deep, 1 red zone – big play for 16 yards.

WR – Early Doucet: 3 Targets; 1 red zone.

WR – Andre Roberts: 2 Targets – big play for a 30-yard touchdown.

TE – Jim Dray: 1 Target – big play for 17 yards.

TE – Stephen Spach: 1 Target.

RB – Tim Hightower: 13 Rush and 1 Target; 3 red zone.

RB – LaRod Stephens-Howling: 4 Rush and 2 Targets – big play for a 96 yard kickoff return for touchdown.

RB – Chris Wells: 1 Rush.

RB – Jason Wright: 1 Target.

Fantasy Impact:
Breaston is worth considering if he is available as a bye week replacement. He has a favorable matchup against Seattle this week and has had success against them in the past. He missed the first meeting earlier in the year while he was out with a knee injury but he has 247 yards and three touchdowns in the previous three outings.

Minnesota

Yards: Pass 446, Rush 80

Red Zone: 2-for-6, 33 percent (season: 13-for-27, 48 percent)

Drives: First Half: interception on pass intended for Greg Lewis and Arizona fumbles out of bounds in end zone for touchback – punt – three-and-out – Adrian Peterson 12-yard touchdown – 21-yard field goal – three-and-out – ran out clock. Second Half: punt – interception on pass intended for Jimmy Kleinsasser – turnover on downs at Arizona 1-yard line – Peterson 4-yard touchdown – Visanthe Shiancoe 25-yard touchdown. Overtime: 35-yard field goal.

Players:

WR – Percy Harvin: 12 Targets; 1 deep, 1 red zone – big plays for 15, 22, 25 and 28 yards.

WR – Bernard Berrian: 1 Rush and 11 Targets; 2 deep, 1 red zone – big plays for 15, 18 and 22 yards.

WR – Greg Lewis: 6 Targets; 1 red zone.

TE – Visanthe Shiancoe: 5 Targets; 3 deep – big plays for 15, 20 yards and a 25-yard touchdown.

WR – Greg Camarillo: 5 Targets; 3 deep – big plays for 18 and 31 yards.

TE – Jeff Dugan: 2 Targets; 1 red zone.

TE – Jimmy Kleinsasser: 1 Target.

RB – Adrian Peterson: 15 Rush and 4 Targets; 5 red zone – big plays for 15, 30, 33 yards, a 4-yard touchdown and a 12-yard touchdown.

RB – Toby Gerhart: 2 Rush and 1 Target; 2 red zone.

Fantasy Impact:
Shiancoe owners may have become frustrated and dropped him. He is worth considering if he is available. He has some upside going forward now that Randy Moss is no longer on the team and options are limited in the passing game right now for Minnesota.

TAMPA BAY 21 – ATLANTA 27

Tampa Bay

Yards: Pass 189, Rush 96

Red Zone: 1-for-2, 5- percent (season: 9-for-20, 45 percent)

Drives: First Half: punt – Arrelious Benn 14-yard touchdown – Mike Williams 58-yard touchdown – three-and-out. Second Half: interception on pass intended for Mike Williams – punt – kickoff return for touchdown – interception on pass intended for Williams – turnover on downs at Atlanta 2-yard line.

Players:

WR – Mike Williams: 10 Targets; 3 deep – big plays for 15 yards and a 58-yard touchdown.

TE – Kellen Winslow: 4 Targets.

WR – Arrelious Benn: 1 Rush and 1 Target; 1 red zone – big play for a 14-yard touchdown.

WR – Micheal Spurlock: 2 Targets; 1 deep – big plays for 43 yards and an 89 yard kickoff return for touchdown.

WR – Preston Parker: 1 Rush and 2 Targets; 1 red zone.

RB – LeGarrette Blount: 13 Rush; 3 red zone – big play for 21 yards.

RB – Cadillac Williams: 8 Rush and 2 Targets.

Fantasy Impact:
Benn is someone to keep an eye on for now. He is limited on his opportunity, but he has had a big play in two straight games. If he starts to receive more looks he could have some potential down the road.

Atlanta

Yards: Pass 235, Rush 130

Red Zone: 3-for-4, 75 percent (season: 17-for-30, 57 percent)

Drives: First Half: Michael Turner 2-yard touchdown – Turner 10-yard touchdown – 31-yard field goal – punt – ran out clock. Second Half: Michael Palmer 5-yard touchdown – 41-yard field goal – three-and-out – punt – ran out clock.

Players:

TE – Tony Gonzalez: 11 Targets; 1 red zone – big plays for 15 and 16 yards.

WR – Roddy White: 1 Rush and 6 Targets; 1 deep, 1 red zone – big play for 22 yards.

WR – Brian Finneran: 5 Targets; 1 deep, 1 red zone.

WR – Michael Jenkins: 4 Targets; 2 deep – big play for 43 yards.

TE – Michael Palmer: 2 Targets; 1 red zone – big play for a 5-yard touchdown.

WR – Harry Douglas: 2 Targets; 1 deep, 1 red zone.

RB – Michael Turner: 24 Rush; 6 red zone – big plays for 19 yards, a 2-yard touchdown and a 10-yard touchdown.

FB – Jason Snelling: 5 Rush and 5 Targets; 2 red zone.

FB – Ovie Mughelli: 1 Target.

Fantasy Impact:
Jenkins is someone worth consideration as a bye week replacement and he could have some potential use this week if White is limited, but overall he has limited upside and disappears at times. No one else has stepped up with any consistency in the passing game to warrant a roster spot at this time.

NEW ORLEANS 34 – CAROLINA 3

New Orleans

Yards: Pass 253, Rush 165

Red Zone: 3-for-6, 50 percent (season: 16-for-37, 43 percent)

Second Half: 36-yard field goal – punt – (defense returns interception for touchdown) – three-and-out – Ladell Betts 1-yard touchdown – turnover on downs at New Orleans 45-yard line.

Players:

WR – Marques Colston: 9 Targets – big play for 16 yards.

WR – Lance Moore: 8 Targets; 2 deep, 2 red zone – big play for 36 yards.

TE – David Thomas: 6 Targets; 1 red zone – big play for 22 yards.

WR – Robert Meachem: 5 Targets.

TE – Jimmy Graham: 4 Targets; 1 deep, 1 red zone – big plays for 17 yards and a 19-yard touchdown.

TE – Jeremy Shockey: 2 Targets; 1 red zone – big play for a 7-yard touchdown.

WR – Devery Henderson: 2 Targets; 1 deep.

RB – Ladell Betts: 13 Rush and 2 Targets; 4 red zone – big play for a 1-yard touchdown.

RB – Chris Ivory: 12 Rush; 2 red zone.

RB – Julius Jones: 6 Rush and 3 Targets; 2 red zone – big play for 54 yards.

Fantasy Impact:
New Orleans is on a bye in Week 10.

Carolina

Yards: Pass 107, Rush 127

Red Zone: 0-for-3, 0 percent (season: 4-for-16, 25 percent)

Drives: First Half: 20-yard field goal – Jonathan Stewart fumble – miss 40-yard field goal – three-and-out – punt – punt. Second Half: three-and-out – punt – interception on pass intended for Dante Rosario – three-and-out – three-and-out – turnover on downs at New Orleans 29 yard line.

Players:

WR – Steve Smith: 6 Targets; 1 red zone.

WR – David Gettis: 5 Targets; 1 deep, 1 red zone – big play for 22 yards.

TE – Jeff King: 5 Targets; 1 red zone.

TE – Dante Rosario: 5 Targets; 1 deep.

WR – Brandon LaFell: 3 Targets; 2 red zone.

TE – Gary Barnidge: 2 Targets; 1 deep, 1 red zone.

RB – Mike Goodson: 9 Rush and 4 Targets.

RB – Tyrell Sutton: 7 Rush and 3 Targets – big play for 32 yards.

RB – Jonathan Stewart: 5 Rush.

FB – Tony Fiammetta: 1 Rush and 2 Targets.

Fantasy Impact:
Goodson is worth considering as a bye week replacement with every other running back on the roster dealing with injuries right now. He will start this week without worries of sharing the workload and has a good matchup against Tampa Bay, but his supporting cast could limit his production.
