Inside The Gamebook – Late Games Week 8

MINNESOTA 18 – NEW ENGLAND 28

Minnesota

Yards: Pass 295, Rush 125

Red Zone: 2-for-4, 50 percent (season: 11-for-21, 52 percent)

Drives: First Half: punt – Adrian Peterson 1-yard touchdown – punt – turnover on downs at New England 3-yard line. Second Half: 24-yard field goal – three-and-out – interception on pass intended for Percy Harvin – three-and-out – Naufahu Tahi 1-yard touchdown and successful two-point attempt – ran out clock.

Players:

WR – Percy Harvin: 8 Targets; 3 deep, 1 red zone – big plays for 15, 19, 21, 30 yards and a two-point conversion.

TE – Visanthe Shiancoe: 5 Targets – big play for 17 yards.

WR – Bernard Berrian: 4 Targets; 1 red zone.

WR – Greg Lewis: 3 Targets; 1 red zone.

WR – Randy Moss: 2 Targets; 1 deep, 2 red zone.

TE – Jimmy Kleinsasser: 2 Targets.

RB – Adrian Peterson: 25 Rush and 6 Targets; 1 deep, 10 red zone – big plays for 25 yards and a 1-yard touchdown.

RB – Toby Gerhart: 2 Rush and 5 Targets; 1 red zone – big plays for 20 and 23 yards.

FB – Naufahu Tahi: 2 Targets; 1 red zone – big play for a 1-yard touchdown.

Fantasy Impact: Shiancoe may have been dropped by a frustrated owner and is someone to consider as a speculative play this week if available. With Moss out of the equation, Shiancoe could see an increase in targets and this week could give a good gauge for his potential for the remainder of the season.

New England

Yards: Pass 240, Rush 122

Red Zone: 3-for-3, 100 percent (season: 16-for-28, 57 percent)

Drives: First Half: punt – three-and-out – Danny Woodhead 3-yard touchdown – three-and-out – ran out clock. Second Half: Brandon Tate 65-yard touchdown – three-and-out – BenJarvus Green-Ellis 13-yard touchdown – punt – Green-Ellis 2-yard touchdown.

Players:

WR – Wes Welker: 5 Targets; 1 red zone.

WR – Brandon Tate: 4 Targets; 2 deep – big plays for 32 yards and a 65-yard touchdown.

WR – Deion Branch: 3 Targets; 2 deep – big play for 21 yards.

TE – Aaron Hernandez: 3 Targets – big play for 27 yards.

TE – Rob Gronkowski: 3 Targets.

TE – Alge Crumpler: 1 Target.

RB – BenJarvus Green-Ellis: 17 Rush and 2 Targets; 2 red zone – big plays for 26 yards, a 2-yard touchdown and a 13-yard touchdown.

RB – Danny Woodhead: 6 Rush and 6 Targets; 1 red zone – big plays for 16 yards and a 3-yard touchdown.

Fantasy Impact: Tate is someone to consider as a speculative play to see if his role increases. He has not seen more than five targets in a game this season, but he did have the second-most targets last week among the receivers and tight ends. Branch has had disappointing outings in back-to-back games after putting up 98 yards and a touchdown in his first game with the Patriots.

TAMPA BAY 38 – ARIZONA 35

Tampa Bay

Yards: Pass 278, Rush 154

Red Zone: 2-for-3, 67 percent (season: 8-for-18, 44 percent)

Drives: First Half: three-and-out – three-and-out – (defense interception returned for touchdown) – punt – fumble on punt return – Mike Williams 47-yard touchdown – (defense interception returned for touchdown) – 21-yard field goal. Second Half: punt – LeGarrette Blount 15-yard touchdown – Blount fumble – punt – Blount 1-yard touchdown – 53-yard field goal blocked – punt.

Players:

WR – Mike Williams: 6 Targets; 2 deep – big plays for 22, 31 yards and a 47-yard touchdown.

WR – Micheal Spurlock: 3 Targets; 1 deep – big plays for 20 and 29 yards.

TE – John Gilmore: 2 Targets.

TE – Kellen Winslow: 2 Targets.

WR – Maurice Stovall: 2 Targets.

WR – Arrelious Benn: 1 Rush and 1 Target; 1 deep – big play for 53 yards.

TE – Ryan Purvis: 1 Target.

RB – LeGarrette Blount: 22 Rush and 2 Targets; 2 red zone – big plays for 48 yards, a 1-yard touchdown and a 15-yard touchdown.

RB – Cadillac Williams: 4 Rush and 5 Targets – big play for 15 yards.

FB – Earnest Graham: 1 Rush and 1 Target.

Fantasy Impact: Blount had a blowout game in his first start and is worth picking up if available. Williams is the first option in the passing game and it is too difficult to trust anyone else on the team right now as Josh Freeman spreads the ball around.

Arizona

Yards: Pass 305, Rush 100

Red Zone: 3-for-4, 75 percent (season: 9-for-15, 60 percent)

Drives: First Half: punt – Larry Fitzgerald 3-yard touchdown – interception on pass intended for Fitzgerald – three-and-out – (fumble recovery on punt) Chris Wells 1-yard touchdown – interception on pass intended for Steve Breaston – turnover on downs at Tampa Bay 3-yard line. Second Half: punt – LaRod Stephens-Howling 30-yard touchdown – (fumble recovery returned for touchdown) – Fitzgerald 5-yard touchdown – interception on pass intended for Stephens-Howling – interception on pass intended for  Fitzgerald – ran out clock.

Players:

WR – Larry Fitzgerald: 12 Targets; 4 deep, 3 red zone – big plays for 17, 24 yards, a 3-yard touchdown and a 5-yard touchdown.

WR – Steve Breaston: 1 Rush and 11 Targets; 5 deep – big plays for 33, 36 and 37 yards.

WR – Early Doucet: 5 Targets; 2 deep – big play for 25 yards.

TE – Stephen Spach: 1 Target.

TE – Ben Patrick: 1 Target; 1 deep.

RB – Chris Wells: 16 Rush and 2 Targets; 6 red zone – big play for a 1-yard touchdown.

RB – LaRod Stephens-Howling: 4 Rush and 2 Targets; 1 red zone – big play for a 30-yard touchdown.

RB – Jason Wright: 4 Targets; 2 red zone.

RB – Tim Hightower: 1 Rush and 1 Target.

Fantasy Impact: Wells could start building some momentum after rushing for more than 50 yards and a touchdown in back-to-back games while getting the majority of the carries. He had an allergic reaction to an injection in his knee this week but he should be fine and has said he will play this weekend. Breaston came back after missing three games with an injured knee and showed no ill effects and is someone to consider if available.

SEATTLE 3 – OAKLAND 33

Seattle

Yards: Pass 163, Rush 47

Red Zone: 0-for-2, 0 percent (season: 9-for-22, 41 percent)

Drives: First Half: three-and-out – three-and-out – three-and-out – punt – three-and-out – punt – miss 51-yard field goal. Second Half: punt – miss 29-yard field goal – three-and-out – interception on pass intended for Deon Butler – 47-yard field goal – punt – ran out clock.

Players:

WR – Golden Tate: 7 Targets; 4 deep – big play for 24 yards.

WR – Mike Williams: 5 Targets; 2 deep, 1 red zone – big play for 27 yards.

WR – Deon Butler: 5 Targets; 4 deep, 1 red zone.

TE – John Carlson: 4 Targets – big play for 35 yards.

WR – Ben Obomanu: 3 Targets.

WR – Brandon Stokley: 1 Target; 1 deep.

TE – Chris Baker: 1 Target.

RB – Marshawn Lynch: 9 Rush; 1 red zone.

RB – Justin Forsett: 5 Rush and 6 Targets.

RB – Leon Washington: 5 Rush.

Fantasy Impact: Matt Hasselbeck has been ruled out this week and Charlie Whitehurst will start in his place. Whitehurst has never thrown a pass in the NFL and will face a rested New York Giants team coming off a bye week. This is a situation that will likely have a negative impact and it should be avoided if better options are available.

Oakland

Yards: Pass 310, Rush: 239

Red Zone: 1-for-4, 25 percent (season: 14-for-31, 45 percent)

Drives: First Half: three-and-out – three-and-out – 31-yard field goal – three-and-out – Marcel Reece 30-yard touchdown – punt – punt – ran out clock. Second Half: 36-yard field goal – miss 45-yard field goal – 22-yard field goal – Darrius Heyward-Bey 69-yard touchdown – 49-yard field goal – Michael Bush 4-yard touchdown.

Players:

WR – Darrius Heyward-Bey: 1 Rush and 9 Targets; 4 deep, 1 red zone – big plays for 30 yards and a 69-yard touchdown.

WR – Jacoby Ford: 1 Rush and 3 Targets.

WR – Johnnie Higgins: 3 Targets; 2 red zone.

TE – Zach Miller: 2 Targets.

WR – Nick Miller: 1 Target.

RB – Darren McFadden: 21 Rush and 2 Targets; 3 red zone – big plays for 20 and 49 yards.

RB – Michael Bush: 9 Rush and 1 Target; 2 red zone – big plays for 30, 55 yards and a 4-yard touchdown.

FB – Marcel Reece: 2 Rush and 4 Targets – big plays for 30, 31, 51 yards and a 30-yard touchdown.

Fantasy Impact: Reece has 180 total yards and two touchdowns in the last two games. Reece has seen an increase in his touches and he did a little of everything last week; he even lined up out wide. With Louis Murphy already declared out, Miller possibly missing the game and  Heyward-Bey nicked up, he could be a speculative play if your options are limited.

PITTSBURGH 10 – NEW ORLEANS 20

Pittsburgh

Yards: Pass 195, Rush: 108

Red Zone: 0-for-1, 0 percent (season: 7-for-19, 37 percent)

Drives: First Half: punt – punt – punt – 19-yard field goal – punt – miss 51-yard field goal – ran out clock. Second Half: turnover on downs at New Orleans 40-yard line – Rashard Mendenhall 38-yard touchdown – Heath Miller fumble – interception on pass intended for Mike Wallace.

Players:

WR – Hines Ward: 6 Targets.

WR – Antwaan Randle El: 6 Targets; 2 deep, 1 red zone.

WR – Mike Wallace: 4 Targets; 1 deep – big play for 21 yards.

TE – Heath Miller: 2 Targets.

TE – Matt Spaeth: 2 Targets.

WR – Emmanuel Sanders: 2 Targets; 1 deep – big play for 21 yards.

TE – David Johnson: 1 Target.

RB – Rashard Mendenhall: 15 Rush and 3 Targets; 4 red zone – big play for a 38-yard touchdown.

RB – Isaac Redman: 3 Rush; 1 red zone – big play for 15 yards.

RB – Mewelde Moore: 2 Rush and 1 Target – big play for 18 yards.

Fantasy Impact: Randle El may have seen an increase in his targets but he is not someone worth considering as he has only averaged 2.5 targets per game leading up to last week.

New Orleans

Yards: Pass 305, Rush 30

Red Zone: 2-for-4, 50 percent (season: 13-for-31, 42 percent)

Drives: First Half: punt – punt – three-and-out – punt – interception on pass intended for Devery Henderson – 31-yard field goal. Second Half: 23-yard field goal – Marques Colston 16-yard touchdown – Drew Brees fumble – Lance Moore 8-yard touchdown – ran out clock.

Players:

WR – Marques Colston: 1 Rush and 9 Targets; 2 red zone – big plays for 27 yards and a 16-yard touchdown.

WR – Lance Moore: 8 Targets; 1 deep, 4 red zone – big plays for 18 yards and an 8-yard touchdown.

WR – Robert Meachem: 6 Targets; 1 deep – big play for 50 yards.

WR – Devery Henderson: 4 Targets; 1 deep.

TE – Jeremy Shockey: 4 Targets; 1 deep.

TE – David Thomas: 4 Targets; 1 red zone.

RB – Julius Jones: 7 Rush and 4 Targets; 1 red zone.

RB – Chris Ivory: 7 Rush; 2 red zone.

RB – Ladell Betts: 3 Rush and 2 Targets; 3 red zone.

FB – Heath Evans: 2 Targets; 1 red zone.

Fantasy Impact: Meachem owners likely became frustrated early on and may have dropped him. He is worth considering as a speculative play. He is playing with some more consistency with 50 or more yards in three out of the last four games with two touchdowns in that span.

HOUSTON 17 – INDIANAPOLIS 30

Houston

Yards: Pass 201, Rush 108

Red Zone: 1-for-2, 50 percent (season: 13-for-19, 68 percent)

Drives: First Half: punt – punt – turnover on downs at Indianapolis 47-yard line – interception on pass intended for Kevin Walter – 53-yard field goal – punt – three-and-out. Second Half: Andre Johnson 28-yard touchdown – Arian Foster 6-yard touchdown – three-and-out – Matt Schaub fumble.

Players:

WR – Andre Johnson: 10 Targets; 4 deep – big plays for 17, 21 yards and a 28-yard touchdown.

WR – Jacoby Jones: 5 Targets; 1 red zone.

WR – Kevin Walter: 5 Targets; 1 red zone.

TE – Owen Daniels: 3 Targets; 1 red zone.

TE – Joel Dreessen: 1 Target.

RB – Arian Foster: 15 Rush and 9 Targets; 2 red zone – big plays for 33 yards and a 6-yard touchdown.

RB – Derrick Ward: 2 Rush and 3 Targets.

FB – Vonta Leach: 1 Target.

Fantasy Impact: Daniels had seen an increase in his workload the previous two games and while he did not post good numbers this past week he still remains a speculative play. Jones and Walter have not been playing that well and someone will need to step it up, and it could be Daniels who starts getting his number called more often.

Indianapolis

Yards: Pass 268, Rush 107

Red Zone: 2-for-4, 50 percent (season: 16-for-25, 64 percent)

Drives: First Half: three-and-out – Jacob Tamme 2-yard touchdown – punt – (defense returns interception for touchdown) – punt – 48-yard field goal – ran out clock. Second Half: Reggie Wayne 15-yard touchdown – 23-yard field goal – 36-yard field goal – punt – ran out clock.

Players:

WR – Reggie Wayne: 12 Targets; 3 deep, 2 red zone – big play for a 15-yard touchdown.

WR – Pierre Garcon: 11 Targets; 2 deep, 3 red zone – big plays for 15 and 18 yards.

TE – Jacob Tamme: 9 Targets; 2 deep, 2 red zone – big plays for 26 yards and a 2-yard touchdown.

WR – Anthony Gonzalez: 6 Targets; 2 deep, 2 red zone – big play for 34 yards.

TE – Gijon Robinson: 1 Target.

TE – Brody Eldridge: 1 Target.

RB – Mike Hart: 12 Rush and 3 Targets; 3 red zone – big play for 35 yards.

RB – Donald Brown: 9 Rush and 2 Targets; 2 red zone.

RB – Javarris James: 3 Rush.

Fantasy Impact: Tamme had the best game of his career in last week’s debut. He is worth picking up and will continue to see plenty of opportunity in the Colts’ offense. Gonzalez is someone to avoid, as he will miss the rest of the season after being placed on Injured Reserve. White is a speculative play since he is next in the pecking order for a suddenly depleted group.
