Home / Commentary / THE LOWDOWN: Week 15

Welcome to The Lowdown for Week 15. This is my little corner of the fantasy football universe — feel free to pull up a chair and stay a while!

The End of the Line

Well, it’s the end of the line for most of my readers this week: if they were smart and ignored my advice, odds are they’re in their league’s Championship game this week. Unfortunately, management at here at Fantasy Sharks insists on “getting their money’s worth,” which means I’ll be trying to churn out two more columns during the holidays. [Editor’s Comment: John, we gave up trying to get our money’s worth back in Week 4.]

Just do me a favor: if you end up losing, take an hour or two to grieve, then move on. Don’t waste your time circulating petitions for recounts or publishing conspiracy theories about how your opponent’s WR1 is actually a genetically enhanced cyborg planted by the Russians to undermine our fantasy football leagues. [Editor’s Comment: Although, if his name is Ivan Drago, you might be on to something.]

See that? A thinly, yet expertly, veiled piece of satire meant to goof on the current political climate. I’m the second coming of Keith Olbermann… except without all the over-the-top emotional pleading and eventual sobbing. [Editor’s Comment: Really, John, Keith Olbermann? You’ve lost all credibility…again.]

Interesting Players of the Week

Not necessarily the players in line for the biggest games this week, but rather some players that caught my interest and upon whom I shall cast my gaze…

  1. Matt Ryan, ATL (vs. SFO) – 41.08
  2. Kirk Cousins, WAS (vs. CAR) – 39.80
  3. Marcus Mariota, TEN (vs. KCC) – 39.20
  4. Colin Kaepernick, SFO (vs. Atl) – 38.54
  5. Ben Roethlisberger, PIT (vs. Cin) – 38.31
  6. Drew Brees, NOS (vs. ARI) – 38.23
  7. Tyrod Taylor, BUF (vs. CLE) – 38.10
  8. Philip Rivers, SDC (vs. Oak) – 37.51
  9. Dak Prescott, DAL (vs. TBB) – 37.38
  10. Derek Carr, OAK (vs. SDC) – 37.16

I really fail to see the controversy in Dallas: Dak Prescott deserves to see this season through. The kid leads the team to the best record in the NFL thus far, losing only to one team, and all of a sudden we’re discussing whether or not Tony Romo should Earl Morrall this thing. Please. Sometimes sportswriters need to just STFU. Derek Carr might’ve been higher on this list, but his finger injury really hampered his performance last week; he’s a bit of a risk as a result.

  1. David Johnson, ARI (vs. NOS) – 51.68
  2. Le’Veon Bell, PIT (vs. CIN) – 50.15
  3. Devonta Freeman, ATL (vs. SFO) – 47.74
  4. LeSean McCoy, BUF (vs. CLE) – 46.69
  5. Carlos Hyde, SFO (vs. Atl) – 43.59
  6. Ezekiel Elliott, DAL (vs. TBB) – 43.41
  7. Latavius Murray, OAK (vs. SDC) – 43.34
  8. DeMarco Murray, TEN (vs. KCC) – 41.52
  9. Tevin Coleman, ATL (vs. SFO) – 39.01
  10. Jeremy Hill, CIN (vs. Pit) – 38.96

If you looked at the schedule back in August, saw Bills vs. Browns scheduled for Fantasy Championship week and promptly drafted LeSean McCoy, kudos to you. Carlos Hyde is making the case to be a RB1 in 2017 redraft leagues down the stretch of this season.

  1. Mike Evans, TBB (vs. DAL) – 58.34
  2. Jordy Nelson, GBP (vs. Chi) – 56.01
  3. Odell Beckham, NYG (vs. DET) – 54.92
  4. Tyreek Hill, KCC (vs. TEN) – 53.69
  5. Rishard Matthews, TEN (vs. KCC) – 53.46
  6. Larry Fitzgerald, ARI (vs. NOS) – 52.52
  7. Brandin Cooks, NOS (vs. ARI) – 52.04
  8. Stefon Diggs, MIN (vs. IND) – 51.59
  9. Jarvis Landry, MIA (vs. NYJ) – 51.56
  10. Antonio Brown, PIT (vs. CIN) – 51.31

The only reason Jarvis Landry isn’t higher on this week’s list is that Matt Moore will be taking the snaps this week for the Dolphins; otherwise, he’d be a Top 3 play this week. That ‘ol Jordy NelsonAaron Rodgers mojo is starting to work again, just at the right time for their owners. Tyreek Hill is now the clear WR1 in KC for fantasy purposes, especially if special teams TDs are credited in your league.

  1. Greg Olsen, CAR (vs. WAS) – 29.24
  2. Tyler Eifert, CIN (vs. PIT) – 26.46
  3. Travis Kelce, KCC (vs. Ten) – 25.87
  4. Cameron Brate, TBB (vs. Dal) – 25.80
  5. Kyle Rudolph, MIN (vs. Ind) – 25.52
  6. Antonio Gates, SDC (vs. Oak) – 24.12
  7. Jordan Reed, WAS (vs. CAR) – 23.99
  8. Jason Witten, DAL (vs. TBB) – 22.07
  9. Zach Ertz, PHI (vs. Bal) – 21.83
  10. Delanie Walker, TEN (vs. KCC) – 21.54

He’s had a quiet few weeks, but Greg Olsen is set up for a big game this week. For owners who were able to stash him until he got healthy, Tyler Eifert is a nice return on investment at a position that has been relatively lackluster this season.
