My Picks This Week

So last week I had an okay result. I was completely fooled by the Eagles and Giants game. It’s tough to call these matchups as sometimes teams actually show up.

Here’s what I did know

Baltimore was scary good. They ran out of defensive tackles and plugged in a tight end to try to get a pass rush.

The Ravens had no answer for Chris Johnson who ran wild until he got hurt. After that, the Titans left points on the table on three drives. They were awful without the speedster.

The Steelers played some very good ball. I expected a win and enjoyed watching the game. I knew Darren Sproles would not really get free and I was correct. The Charger offense sputtered like I predicted.

I said

Arizona would cover and I was correct. However,

Carolina was in my mind going to win. That’s proof that a quarterback can lose a game for you even with a solid ground game. Jake Delhomme was downright awful.

Arizona played pretty darn good on defense in that game. Anquan Boldin didn’t make an appearance, but Larry Fitzgerald and Kurt Warner were very good.

For this playoff week I’m looking for the following to happen:

The Ravens and Steelers game will be a defensive struggle. I expect

Pittsburgh to have a hard time with

Baltimore’s defense. Ed Reed has shown he can be the best offensive weapon after he intercepts passes. I expect him to get his hands on the ball again. Both teams will run the ball in a grind-it-out effort. For

Baltimore, I like the passing game with Joe Flacco, Derrick Mason, Mark Clayton and Todd Heap. I suspect this game will be a nail biter.

My pick is

17-13 over

Arizona and

Philadelphia square off for what will be the most unpredictable matchup.

Arizona has the tough task of stopping Brian Westbrook. The good news is he hasn’t practiced up to Thursday. He will play regardless though. Expect

Arizona‘s crowd to make it a real tough to hear.

Warner knows how not to lose the big game. Boldin may not be a big factor in this game. The thought of him in the lineup is super scary though. He opens things up for Steve Breaston, who finally gets it this season and should be moving up draft boards in next year’s draft.

Expect the run game for

Arizona to get some work, but there won’t be much in the way of big yardage.

I don’t like Tim Hightower as a feature back despite his 11 TDs in the regular season. Edgerrin James is a better option this Sunday.

I’m taking the home team folks!

27-20 over

Playoffs? Did you say playoffs? Yeah Jim Mora, we did.
