NFL DRAFT: 2-Round Mock Draft

As I sit in the airport on my way to the NFL Draft in Philadelphia, I wrote my 2017 Mock Draft (with enough time to do 2 full rounds, thanks Frontier Airlines!) and I include some highly anticipated trades. With the San Francisco 49ers wanting to trade down and the Carolina Panthers really wanting Fournette, and with the Browns wanting to trade up to make sure they get Mitch Trubisky and Myles Garrett, I molded my draft with those two trades in mind.

1.1. Cleveland Browns: Myles Garrett, Texas A&M-DE
Cleveland takes not only the best player available, but the player that can strongly improve their weak defense.

1.2. Carolina Panthers (via trade): Leonard Fournette, LSU-RB
I think if anyone is going to trade up to 2, it’s going to be Carolina for a guaranteed shot of taking Fournette to pair with Newton, Olsen, and Benjamin.

1.3. Chicago Bears: Malik Hooker, Ohio State-S
Chicago needs better help in the secondary to play in a division where they get picked apart by Aaron Rodgers and Matt Stafford every year.

1.4. Jacksonville Jaguars: Solomon Thomas, Standford-DE
The Jaguars wanted Fournette with this pick but I believe they take the best player available in Thomas to continue to rebuild the stout defensive line.

1.5. Tennessee Titans: Jamal Adams, LSU-S
I don’t think the Titans thought they would be able to grab one of the top Safeties, but are content with getting the great value to help their depleted secondary.

1.6. Cleveland Browns (via trade): Mitch Trubisky, UNC-QB
Lot of buzz about Cleveland trading up to get their franchise Quarterback and with rumors of both Jets and Chargers looking to trade back, I’ll take the Jets on it.

1.7. Los Angeles Chargers: Jonathan Allen, Alabama-DL
The Chargers were marred by injury to the defensive line last year and need to find some young, stellar upgrades. Allen shouldn’t have fallen this far and they get a steal.

1.8. San Francisco 49’ers (via trade): Christian McCaffrey, Stanford-RB
If the Panthers were still here, I think they would pick McCaffrey, but the 49ers see a versatile RB to pair with Carlos Hyde and this is the first step in a great rebuild by Shanahan.

1.9. Cincinnati Bengals: Derek Barnett, Tennessee-DE
I think Cincy is going to take either Foster or Bennett here, both help them get to the QB faster, but with Barnett picking up a lot of hype this week I’ll stick with him.

1.10. Buffalo Bills: OJ Howard, Alabama-DL
I refuse to believe that Howard falls out of a Top 10 selection and Buffalo is a perfect landing spot.

1.11. New Orleans Saints:  Taco Charlton, Michigan-DE
New Orleans needs help on the Defensive Line and Secondary and I expect both to be addressed in the 1st round, but due to the more abundance of Corners and Safeties, I see them taking a DE.

1.12. New York Jets (via trade): Marshon Lattimore, Ohio State-CB
The Jets trade back and still get a top-10 talent in Lattimore who is a perfect replacement for Revis.

1.13. Arizona Cardinals: DeShaun Watson, Clemson-QB
This is going to come down to Watson or Mahones as the heir apparent to Carson Palmer.

1.14. Philadelphia Eagles: Gareon Conley, Ohio State-CB
Philly got tore up last year by Quarterback play in the NFC East. They’ve already loaded their offense up, next step is to get a Corner who is going to stay on top of the receivers.

1.15. Indianapolis Colts: Hassan Reddick, Temple-LB
Indy’s defense has been awful in the past seasons, and Reddick has climbed to the top LB.

1.16. Baltimore Ravens: Cam Robinson, Alabama-OT
Baltimore is notorious for taking the best player available and this one just happens to help their Offensive Line to preserve Joe Flacco a while longer.
