Fantasy Analysis
Week 7 Projections
That's more like it, Matty Ice. After struggling big time for a game and a half without the services of Julio Jones, Ryan's security blanket wideout returned to the starting lineup for a road matchup against the Minnesota Vikings last week, and the Falcons triggerman played like his old self again. With a huge boost from Jones' massive two-score outing, Ryan threw for season highs of 371 yards and four touchdowns. It was just the second time on the season that he has topped the 300-yard mark and cleared two scoring strikes in a contest. Ryan is currently ranked in the top three among NFL quarterbacks in completions, attempts and passing yards, and he's eighth in touchdown strikes. The Falcons triggerman is a strong play in what projects as a high-scoring matchup versus a Detroit Lions defense that has surrendered at least 240 passing yards in every game this season and has yielded at least two touchdown strikes in four of five contests played so far.
Passing: 298 Yards, 2 TD, 1 INT.
Rushing: 7 Yards, 0 TD.

Season Projections
For the second season in a row, the Falcons lived and died with Ryan's arm because of an inept bottom-five rushing attack and a still leaky bottom-six defense that did improve a bit toward the end of 2019. Despite topping the NFL in completions, Ryan slipped from fantasy QB2 to fantasy QB7 because he passed for nine fewer touchdowns (1.7 per contest) and 450 fewer yards (297.7 per game). Ryan's top-two targets, Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley, both return healthy. Austin Hooper (Browns), Atlanta's third-leading receiver from 2019, is gone, but the team has breakout hopes for Hayden Hurst even though he has never caught more than 30 passes in a season. Hooper and Hurst have similar skill sets, but Hurst is faster and more of a big-play threat. Todd Gurley, replacing Devonta Freeman, is a great receiver out of the backfield, but can he stay healthy? Ryan was sacked a league-high (tie) 48 times last season but will operate Dirk Koetter's pass-heavy offense again behind a reworked line that's expected to feature five first-round draft picks. If the ground game and/or defense struggle again, the 35-year-old Ryan has high-volume passing upside, but he'll do next to nothing as a runner as usual. A model of consistency, Ryan has finished as a top-10 fantasy quarterback in eight of the past 10 seasons. As Matty Ice heads into his 13th campaign, he has missed only three regular-season games.

Passing: 2670 Yards, 16 TD, 6 INT.
Rushing: 62 Yards, 0 TD.
