Season Projections
He takes the helm of the Jaguars offense as a solid upgrade to the departed Blake Bortles (Rams). The 30-year-old Foles, a Super Bowl MVP just two years ago, gives Jacksonville some much-needed stability, proven leadership and playoff experience at the position. Unlike Bortles, the strong-armed Foles is far more accurate and not prone to streakiness or committing turnovers in bunches. He made five regular-season starts this past season, connecting on 72.5 percent of his throws. Since Foles excels at reading defenses, he should do a much better job of keeping his receivers consistently involved than Bortles did. However, Foles is a pocket passer (20 carries in his last 12 appearances) and lacks Bortles' mobility. Foles and new Jaguars offensive boss John DeFilippo won a championship together in Philadelphia with "Flip" serving as his position coach, but it's still hard to see Foles racking up big passing numbers and making fantasy magic on a team that's expected to continue emphasizing its Leonard Fournette-led rushing attack and defense to win. Foles' collection of playmakers - top returning receiver Dede Westbrook, Chris Conley, Keelan Cole, Marquise Lee (ACL) and rookie third-rounder Josh Oliver - is a lot weaker than the group that Foles left behind in Philadelphia. Aside from racking up an occasional blowup outing, Foles will be a better NFL quarterback than a fantasy one.
