Season Projections
It took five years and a change of scenery to happen, but Ebron, the 10th overall pick in the 2014 draft, finally played up to expectations this past season. Making an impressive Colts debut, Ebron pounded out career-best numbers across the board as the fourth-rated fantasy tight end in most scoring formats after finishing between 13th and 16th from 2015 through 2017 with the Lions. He wrapped up the regular season ranked fourth among tight ends in targets, sixth in receptions, fifth in receiving yards and topped the position in touchdown receptions. His 13 scoring grabs also tied for second-most in the NFL, and Ebron's 14 total touchdowns ranked second only to Antonio Brown among wideouts and tight ends. Ebron, fully recovered from offseason groin surgery, returns for a second season in head coach Frank Reich's tight end friendly high-volume passing attack with tight end friendly Andrew Luck slinging the rock. While Ebron should remain the team's top red-zone guy, he's a regression candidate. Players rarely duplicate career-year production, and another 14 total scores from Ebron looks like a reach. Devin Funchess and rookie second-round selection Parris Campbell have been added to a T.Y. Hilton-led receiver corps, so there are more mouths for Luck to feed and probably fewer targets for Ebron. The return of a healthy Jack Doyle (hip surgery) will result in Ebron playing fewer snaps. When he and Ebron were on the field for six contests this past season - Indianapolis frequently use two-tight end formations - Doyle usually started over Ebron and out-snapped him by an average of 82 percent to 40 percent. Ebron, however, out-targeted him 41 to 33 in what's clearly a passing-down role. Despite some concerns, Ebron is a solid starting option.
