THE PROGNOSTICATOR: Week 2

Welcome my fantasy brethren to another edition of The Prognosticator, may it be your stitch in time. It’s the dreaded 0-2 start week for some teams, the Bills are the first to notch that honor. Let’s see who joins them in an early season scramble out of the cellar. Have a good Week 2 everyone!

How to read the table: The table shows how a team will do Passing and Rushing in the upcoming week of the NFL. Red is HOT, Yellow is WARM, White is NORMAL, Light Blue is COLD and Dark Blue is FREEZING COLD. Play players from teams that are Red and Yellow, avoid players from teams that are Light or Dark Blue and expect average days from teams that are White.

All times are Central (because we had a server issue.. they’ll be Eastern next week!)

New York Jets at Buffalo Bills – Thursday 7:25pm
I’m writing this Friday morning and already know the score of the game. The Progno calculated out a lower scoring game and a closer victory for the Jets than what ultimately transpired.

Miami Dolphins at New England Patriots – Sunday 12:00pm
This seems as good a place as any to explain something to the newcomers here. First, welcome! Thanks for dropping in. Some have a hard time squaring off the fact that I have Miami with all the offensive advantages in the little table over to your right but have the Patriots winning this game. If you take a close look at the boxscores each week you’ll notice the same phenomena. Often, Team A will have more yards, dominate Time of Possession and on paper, played a better game than Team B but Team B still ends up with more points scored than Team A. It happens weekly in the NFL where perhaps the better team that day on the field doesn’t win the game and this game will be an example of that. Expect a quiet day from both offenses in reality as this turns into a defensive struggle. The only fantasy play is when the Patriots throw the ball but in general, you’re better off avoiding this mess.

Baltimore Ravens at Cleveland Browns – Sunday 12:00pm
Expect a low scoring grinder of a game as both teams will focus on their ground game and will run it until the sun goes down. This is a good spot for Justin Forsett and Isaiah Crowell as both rumble well here. Joe Flacco won’t be horrible but he also won’t be as good as many around the fantasy universe are claiming. Yes the Browns have a revamped secondary but there is talent in the coaching ranks and they’ll get that secondary playing well.

Cincinnati Bengals at Pittsburgh Steelers – Sunday 12:00pm
One of the best hitting games of the week as the Steelers host a despised division foe. While I wouldn’t sit DeAngelo Williams for really anyone, this game is all about the passing games as both will be on display and both will excel. Expect big days from both quarterbacks and anyone they throw to.
