The Prognosticator – Week 3

Welcome my fantasy brethren to another edition of The Prognosticator, may it throw you a life preserver. It has been a nutty start to the 2015 season. Survivor pools are just about finished with the only people left standing the ones that forgot to submit something last week, quality players like Dez Bryant and Tony Romo are on the shelf and bunches of quality tight ends either went down or likely won’t play this weekend due to one thing or another. The high flying Eagles are about to go 0-3, the New Orleans Saints look a shell of their former selves, Andrew Luck is having no luck at all, Peyton Manning apparently prefers to throw the flutter ball now and the Steelers just go for two point conversions because they know how terrible their defense is.
It’s all a days work in the NFL and why it makes the games so interesting to watch. The one constant however is that the Patriots, Seahawks and Packers all look dominant and it’s currently their league to lose. Though look out for those Panthers, they’ll make a tricky hurdle come playoff time for someone.

How to read the table: The table shows how a team will do Passing and Rushing in the upcoming week of the NFL. Red is HOT, Yellow is WARM, White is NORMAL, Light Blue is COLD and Dark Blue is FREEZING COLD. Play players from teams that are Red and Yellow, avoid players from teams that are Light or Dark Blue and expect average days from teams that are White.

All times are Eastern

Washington Redskins at New York Giants – Thursday 8:25pm
It is going to be a struggle for Washington trying to contain Eli Manning and his receiving group. It is the one glaring hole in the Redskins defense that the Giants can step right through. It will minimize what Washington can do since they will be forced into playing a style of game that they don’t wish to play. Given their druthers, Washington would like nothing more than to run the football here but it won’t take long before they have to ask Kirk Cousins to go win the game and that’s not what he does. He can manage a game, but win? That’s an entirely different thing altogether.

Jacksonville Jaguars at New England Patriots – Sunday 1:00pm
The Patriots defense still has a long way to go and that will show against a Jaguars team that many expect to be hit hard by a Tom Bradyled team. Have no doubt, the Patriots will indeed make it look easy when they are on offense, scoring at will, but the Jaguars will be able to move the ball quite effectively, too. The matchup is good for T.J. Yeldon but be warned that the Jags will need to move away from their ground game to keep up on the scoreboard. However, the Jaguars plan will be to try and run the ball as much as humanly possible in the beginning just to keep the Patriots offense off the field and they will be able to hold their own in the beginning of this one.

Philadelphia Eagles at New York Jets – Sunday 1:00pm
Things don’t get any easier for an Eagles team that is desperate for a win. The Jets have been playing great on defense and they’ll be able to manipulate Sam Bradford into making bad decisions. This could be the game where Mark Sanchez gets a series or two, just to see if he can move the offense any more effectively as desperate times will call for desperate measures. The Jets won’t do anything spectacular on offense but they will be able to plod along, getting first downs and moving the chains just enough to sustain some drives. While it seems crazy to consider sitting your Eagles, I’m not sure I could either, this is going to be an uphill game for them and there will be continued disappointment for fantasy owners. What the Eagles need right now is a confidence booster game against a weak opponent, something they haven’t had yet this season.

Oakland Raiders at Cleveland Browns – Sunday 1:00pm
There is really just one name to even consider in this contest and that is Latavius Murray. I really like the duo of Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree, they’re an underrated pairing in fantasy but this is a tougher matchup for them than many may think. The Browns on offense, in general, have been completely inept, that won’t change here. If you can steer around this game, do, but Latavius Murray in a flex slot does make some sense.

Indianapolis Colts at Tennessee Titans – Sunday 1:00pm
Is it even remotely possible that the Colts start their season 0-3? Especially against a Titans team that is still feeling their way? The answer is a resounding, “yes.” This is a scary game for the Colts for three reasons, it is a divisional game, in Tennessee, against a team that will be able to carve the Colts up on the ground. Bishop Sankey and Dexter McCluster will be able to run through gigantic holes for most of the day, keeping Andrew Luck and his stable of players off the field. The Colts offense will be OK here for fantasy, especially the passing game but the outcome of this one will not be what the Colts envisioned to start their season.
