THE PROGNOSTICATOR: Week 9

Welcome my fantasy brethren to another edition of The Prognosticator, may it light up your world. We are at the half way point, injuries are taking their toll and soon, the weather will turn nasty, it is so important to make sure your fantasy bench is as good as it can be. Go through your team and elimimate one starter at a time and figure out what you would do if that player were lost for the season and if losing a player puts you in a particularly bad state, make changes now to protect against that. It is much cheaper to get an insurance policy in free agency than it is to have to trade with one of your conniving owners who will happily rake you over the coals in your time of need. Enjoy the games!

How to read the table: The table shows how a team will do Passing and Rushing in the upcoming week of the NFL. Red is HOT, Yellow is WARM, White is NORMAL, Light Blue is COLD and Dark Blue is FREEZING COLD. Play players from teams that are Red and Yellow, avoid players from teams that are Light or Dark Blue and expect average days from teams that are White.

All times are Eastern

Atlanta Falcons at Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Thursday 8:25pm
As I write this, the Thursday game has been played and things developed as expected. The Progno had Atlanta as the top passing team of the week and Tampa Bay as the 6th best passing team overall and both had huge nights in the air. The Thursday night games have been good to ‘ye olde’ Progno as we had the Falcons covering the point spread and cover they did.

New York Jets at Miami Dolphins – Sunday 1:00pm
Miami is at home against a Jets team that has just one weapon — Matt Forte. Now don’t get me wrong, Brandon Marshall is a star but a wideout needs a quarterback to throw the ball somewhat accurately and that has been a problem. With Darrelle Revis a shell of his former self, this won’t be too tough of a matchup for the Dolphins and in particular, Jarvis Landry. Expect big days from your Dolphin receivers and a solid outing from Matt Forte.

Dallas Cowboys at Cleveland Browns – Sunday 1:00pm
The Browns are starting to get pieces back like Corey Coleman and quarterback choices and as mentioned here, have been in games and have played better than many give them credit for. They still are not a winning team, they find ways to shoot themselves in the foot but they are a tougher and tougher matchup each week. The Cowboys however are on somewhat of a roll with their young players starting to take over. Expect a big, big day from Ezekiel Elliott. Fantasy wise this is all about the Cowboys but they are on the road in Cleveland and that is a lot of points to give on the road against a team that many think is worse than it really is.

Jacksonville Jaguars at Kansas City Chiefs – Sunday 1:00pm
This is a tough one for the Jaguars as they are still a team in transition. Blake Bortles has been everything but stellar and their running game has been atrocious behind an offensive line that can’t open holes. Going into KC against a very tough defense is not what the doctor ordered to help the Jags get into the win column. Expect Charcandrick West to run well here, rewarding those many owners that picked him up in free agency this week.

Philadelphia Eagles at New York Giants – Sunday 1:00pm
The Giants are favored because they are at home but in a divisional matchup against a well known foe, this will turn into a grind it out game of smash mouth football. The Eagles do well in coverage and they will be able to slow down Odell Beckham which takes the Giants out of the game as the Eagles will also be able to pressure Eli Manning into making mistakes. The Eagles had a better game last week but they have been up and down lately as they go through some growing pains with Carson Wentz. You won’t find a lot of fantasy love in this one as there will be fumbles and there will be interceptions and that will contribute to keeping the fantasy scores down.
