Geno Smith – In a battle between the top-2 rookie quarterbacks this week you would have to announce that Geno Smith bested E.J. Manuel. Truth be told, I am in shock that this occurred. Smith had a decent game with a line of 16-29-331-2-2 and he also rushed four times for 14 yards and another TD. Smith had two receivers go over the 100-yd mark and threw the game winning TD to Santonio Holmes. Yes, that Santonio Holmes. This was against a team that isn’t very good against the pass, but it is still somewhat of an achievement for him. He also did not get sacked for the first time this year. If, and that’s a big if, he can play like that again he will get your attention.
E.J. Manuel – I am still surprised (and disappointed) that E.J. is not running with the ball more. He has the speed to beat defenders around the corners. E.J.’s numbers were 19-42-243 with a TD and he rushed six times for 40 yards. His throws were all over the place as he was under a lot of pressure from the Jets. His offensive line is horrible and he suffered eight sacks. They need to let him use his speed more. Manuel needs to take more control of the situation and learn to create plays. He may need to if C.J. Spiller isn’t available this week, especially against Baltimore.
