If the New England Patriots cannot win when they are facing an NFC West coast team in their home opener as two-touchdown favorites, then no one is safe. You need a little bit of luck to win these pools and likely half of the entries in your contest are out. Therefore, if you followed Week 2’s column and went with the New York Giants, you are surviving another week. Check out my full analysis on every game in Week 3.
: Chicago Bears –
: New York Giants –
Thursday Night Football
New York Giants at Carolina –
Avoid this pick’em type game.
St. Louis at Chicago –
The Bears were a Week 1 selection in this column so you may not have them available. I would consider them a mid-level option this week if you have them. The Rams look to be improved under head coach Jeff Fisher. Sam Bradford looks like he may have taken a big step as well.
Tampa Bay at Dallas –
The Cowboys will look to rebound from their loss to the Seahawks in Seattle. Tampa Bay will travel to another NFC East opponent. I expect Dallas to bounce back. The Cowboys are a decent choice as Dez Bryant and Miles Austin should be able to find success like the New York receivers did in Week 2.
San Francisco at Minnesota –
I would hold off until San Francisco is home.
Detroit at Tennessee –
Pass on this game.
Cincinnati at Washington –
I thought about Washington in this one, but I see this as a three-point game, and when it comes down to a field goal, anything can happen.
New York Jets at Miami –
Reggie Bush ran wild last week in the Dolphins’ home opener, but it will not be as easy against the Jets this week. However, I am staying away from this AFC East rivalry.
Kansas City at New Orleans –
The Chiefs look to be awful this season, but the Saints haven’t been impressive, either. They are scoring points on offense though, and the Chiefs do not have near the same firepower as New Orleans. I do not see the Saints falling again at the Superdome after they lost Week 1. They are a top option in Week 3.
Buffalo at Cleveland –
Tough game to call as Cleveland can give you a fight at home. I would pass.
Jacksonville at Indianapolis –
The same goes for this game. It would take guts to choose the Colts at home, but it is a divisional game.
Philadelphia at Arizona –
Two wins by two total points. Michael Vick has turned the ball over seven times, but Philadelphia has found a way to start 2-0. They face the surprising 2-0 Cardinals in Arizona, and I would stay away from this game. Take the Eagles when they are home. I’m not buying Arizona yet, either.
Atlanta at San Diego –
Good matchup in San Diego. Avoid.
Houston at Denver –
Same as above, but in Denver. How will Peyton Manning respond at home against what some consider the favorite to win the AFC?
Pittsburgh at Oakland –
The Raiders are always known for a game where they unexpectedly knock someone out of survivor. For that reason, I am going to pass. It looks like Troy Polamalu will miss this game as well.
Sunday Night Football
New England at Baltimore –
Someone is falling to 1-2. The rematch of the AFC Championship. I like Baltimore at home, but not in survivor.
Monday Night Football
Green Bay at Seattle –
Seattle is very tough at home and was the reason why I warned you to avoid taking the favorite Dallas Cowboys last week. The same goes for this Monday night.
Week 3 Selections
My Week 3 selection is the New Orleans Saints. I do not see them going 0-3, especially 0-2 at home to start the year. While I do think they are in for a long season, the Kansas City Chiefs appear to be in for a longer one. Dallas could be your second option, but I feel more comfortable with New Orleans.
: Pittsburgh and Green Bay
Good luck in Week 3!
