FLEX APPEAL: Week 10

WR Tre'Quan Smith NO

Yes, Dez Bryant was signed by the Saints this week. No, I don’t believe this does anything to Smith’s value on the season (Bryant may not even suit up this week). Smith is clearly the number two wideout for Drew Brees, and that’s something that should be appealing to you.

DFS GEMS: Week 10

TE_Greg_Olsen_CAR_1

Back-to-back double-digit fantasy outings and a matchup against a Bottom 5 team against opposing tight ends is typically a recipe for success. When you consider the dearth of viable tight end options thus far this season, that pushes Greg Olsen into must-start territory.

Pick’Em & Survivor: Week 10

Helmet_Green_Bay_Packers_1

The Miami defense is bad, which is partly due to all its injuries. It is true that Miami held the New York Jets to six points last week, but we all know that traveling to Green Bay and facing Aaron Rodgers is quite a different story.

START/BENCH: Week 10

WR Josh Doctson WAS

Doctson rebounded well last week, pulling down his first touchdown catch of the season in the second half. The former first-round pick has been thrust into a larger offensive role by injuries at receiver, and with Paul Richardson done for the season he’s going to maintain that larger target share.

LIKE/DISLIKE: Week 10

WR_Philip_Rivers_SDC_1

Four quarterbacks have totaled at least 14 fantasy points in every game this season. They are Patrick Mahomes (obviously), Cam Newton, Aaron Rodgers … and Philip Rivers. Starting in Week 11, the Chargers will face Denver, Arizona, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and Kansas City, all of which are considered to be favorable matchups

GRINDERS & GAMBLES: Week 10

QB_Dak_Prescott_DAL_1

Dak Prescott’s fantasy stock has dropped significantly as he puts up low-end grinder numbers week after week. He plays a Philadelphia defense that has been hit-or-miss but he should have a decent floor this week.

THE FIRE SALE: Week 10

RB_Duke_Johnson_CLE_1

Duke Johnson was criminally underused by the clown show that was in Cleveland. I mean you can’t make this stuff up. Jackson and Haley weren’t throwing to a pass-catching back. Insanity.

FANTASY STOCK EXCHANGE: Week 10

QB_Matthew_Stafford_DET_1

Stafford had about one of his worst outings that I think I have ever seen from the guy. And in the Fantasy Stock Market, that is code for “Buy Low.” While he is no Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady, if he can be had for a cheap price he’s worthy of some starts in the next few weeks.

IDP WAIVER WIRE: Week 10

QB Kirk Cousins MIN & DE Markus Golden

This week’s matchup with Kansas City isn’t an especially good one — quite the opposite, in fact. But Markus Golden’s got legitimate DL2 upside the rest of the way, and finding that sort of ceiling on the defensive line this late in the game isn’t easy to do.

STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE: Good/Bad Matchups – Week 10

QB Alex Smith WAS

I recommended Alex Smith here last week, and I’m going back to him in Week 10. He didn’t “wow” anyone in Week 9, but he did throw for more than 300 yards. Tampa Bay is the second-best matchup for opposing quarterbacks, so I think Smith will have to air it out more than usual yet again.

ON SECOND THOUGHT: Week 10

TE_Jack_Doyle_IND_1

Mostly because of the injury, Jack Doyle is available in 60% of leagues and if one of those leagues are yours, you need to go snatch him up and thank your lucky stars. In a position that is so hard to get good help in, to be able to get Doyle in Week 10 is a great thing.

TRAPS & TRENDS: Week 10 Edition

RB_Mark_Ingram_NOS_1

Have the San Francisco 49ers provided us with another fantasy-relevant quarterback? Is it time for Mark Ingram owners to smack the panic button? Should Tarik Cohen owners think about doing that, too? Is another tight end emerging in what has ...

SHOW ME WHERE IT HURTS: Week 9 Injury Fallout

RB Chris Carson SEA

Carson left Sunday’s game against the Chargers with a hip injury. He was originally listed as doubtful to return, and he did not re-enter the game. In the post-game press conference, head coach Pete Carroll did not elaborate on the severity of the injury, but he confirmed that it was the same hip injury that Carson had been dealing with all week.

THE LOWDOWN: Week 9

QB_Cam_Newton_CAR_1

Let's admit it: Fitzpatrick should've never have been benched for Jameis Winston... Fitzpatrick figures to be one of the better performing field generals this week, but one of the few guys who is a stronger play this week is Cam Newton.

STREAMING DEFENSES: Week 9

Let's_Get_Rowdy_Dallas_Cowboys_Sign

It is becoming "put up or shut up" time for Marcus Mariota. He was supposed to make a jump at some point between last season and this but we just haven't seen it. I like the Cowboys as the best stream of the week.

NEW AGE RANKINGS: Week 9

RB Marlon Mack IND

He missed a couple of games due to injury, but Colts RB Marlon Mack currently shakes out as a RB1 according to the NAR, ahead of guys like Adrian Peterson, David Johnson and Phillip Lindsay. Mack has been good enough to reign in the number of throws that Andrew Luck has to attempt every game.

DFS VALUE PLAYS: Week 9

WR Courtland Sutton WR

The trade of Demaryius Thomas to the Texans means Courtland Sutton is ready to take over his role. Thomas was averaging 7 targets a game and Sutton already saw 4.6 targets a game and will split the vacated targets with Emmanuel Sanders. The match-up this week is average but the value should be there. Expect high ownership.

FLEX APPEAL: Week 9

WR_Randall_Cobb_GPB_1

Cobb looks like he is back to full health, and I like him for this week’s most anticipated game against the Patriots. He did tie for 2nd on the team in targets in Week 8, behind only Davante Adams. Look for Aaron Rodgers to look for his trusted companion early and often..

RISERS & FALLERS: Week 9

WR_Julio_Jones_ATL_1

BOLD PREDICTIONS: Week 9

RB Isaiah Crowell NYJ

The Jets starting running back, Isaiah Crowell, has been up and down this season. He’s had a few monster fantasy performances (Weeks 1, 3, and 5), but has tallied less than eight fantasy points in every other game this season. It’s hit or miss with him, and I’m banking on a “hit” week for the fifth-year player out of Alabama State.

THE PROGNOSTICATOR: Week 9

QB Tom Brady NE

The NFL has been pumping up this game in New England where Aaron Rodgers and company come to play. Fantasy stats of the week come from the Green Bay passing game as they shred the Patriots defense; there's just no way to sugarcoat it.

IDP STUDS AND DUDS: Week 9 IDP Start/Sit

LB Denzel Perryman LAC

Denzel Perryman was on the field for 82 percent of the Chargers defensive snaps against the Titans—the third-time in four games the fourth-year pro topped 75 percent usage. Against a run-heavy Seahawks team Perryman should see that much playing time or more.

CORNER LOCKDOWN: Week 9

RB Phillip Lindsay DEN

Royce Freeman looks like he’s on the wrong side of questionable again this week so Lindsay should see another 20 plus touches against Houston. In this day in age 20 touches out of your running back is sacred, so throw him out there as a high-end RB2 in Week 9, expecting 100-yards and a score again.

VIP GAME CAPSULES: Week 9 – Thursday Edition

WR Jordy Nelson OAK & CB T.J. Carrie CLE

Struggling Jordy Nelson will draw coverage from Richard Sherman. Mediocre 31-year-old Brandon LaFell (Jon Gruden loves his veterans) quietly operated as the replacement for Amari Cooper last week (3-39-1 on four targets) and not Martavis Bryant who posted a goose-egg on zero targets.

RED ZONE TARGET ANALYSIS: Trade Deadline Special

WR_Ty_Montgomery_GBP_2

When Baltimore traded for Ty Montgomery it officially ended any impact Allen had in the Baltimore offense. Montgomery is by far the more talented player and will be a great third down back for Baltimore. This will also mean that Alex Collins, who is the better power running back, will no longer give way to Allen for short yardage touchdowns.

THE GRIND: DFS Week 9

I am not going to stop playing O.J. Howard until they raise his price. It’s ridiculous. I can’t understand what the algorithm is telling the Draft Kings tech people to keep his cost suppressed, but I rather enjoy it.

DFS GEMS: Week 9

QB Kirk Cousins MIN

Another week, another great matchup for Kirk Cousins. He’s playing at a Top 5 level in season-long fantasy and hasn’t posted less than 17.5 DraftKings points since the Week 3 debacle against Buffalo. With a floor that safe and sky-high ceiling, Cousins makes a ton of sense coming in just below the top tier of quarterback pricing this week.

START/BENCH: Week 9

RB Doug Martin OAK & LB Shaquil Barrett DEN

Doug Martin fumbled on his last carry in a Week 8 loss to Indianapolis, but outside that gaffe he was effective running the ball, racking up 89 total yards on 15 touches. The 29-year-old should have a decent chance at bettering those numbers in a battle of bad Bay Area teams Thursday..

LIKE / DISLIKE: Week 9

QB_Russell_Wilson_SEA_1

His fantasy owners would like to see him throw for more passing yards and run for more rushing yards, but let’s take it one step at a time and appreciate that Russell Wilson has turned it around as of late. With a couple more weeks of stellar play, he’ll start to creep back into mid-level QB1 territory.
