The Diary of a Fantasy Virgin – Let the Season Begin

What is the true definition of a Fantasy Virgin? Welcome to my world and you will see. The draft is over and the Fantasy Football season is upon us. Oh, by the way, the NFL season begins with a Thursday battle featuring the Redskins of Washington at The Champion Giants of New York!

This means that you have to get your lineups in early this week. No fretting about picking out your team at noon on a Sunday.

And this is the first week of the NFL season Fantasy Virgins. Let me talk about the week that was: that would be the draft.

Picking Second – With Some Spice!

So I have the second pick in the draft. All this means is that I do not get L.T. That is LaDainian Tomlinson for everyone else out there. This also means that I have to grab some chilly-weezers and occupy my Monday du Time Off evening to a draft. Sure, we have a bunch of really nice people in my league. Heck, right now it is in the 10th round and it’s only been 1.5 hours.

The Red Sox as of this moment are winning, and I have Brett Favre as my backup QB. Are you kidding me? But picking second means that you have to choose between Adrian Peterson and Brian Westbrook. I have had Westbrook in the past, and it has worked out tremendously. So, as all virgins do, they go with Peterson. I mean, you know, I have to live up to the seven-year reputation of being a virgin, and if Adrian Peterson is 2nd, you honor that.

Does That Meal Come With Favre Beans?

Our draft is a snake draft. This means that even though you pick 1-12 … it comes back 12-1 in the next round. So do you get what I am saying? I had the 2nd pick of the draft this year! That means I go 2nd and then watch 20 picks go by and then get the 22nd pick followed by the 24th pick only to watch another 20 go by. It is awful to see so many good players go. But those are the rules, and that is the way the Fantasy Football cookie crumbles. So, for my 22nd pick, I could get Braylon Edwards or Marques Colston. Along the lines of T.O. and Romo last year, I go with Colston and Brees. Can we call this Brolston? Can we call this Breeston? Only time will tell.

But that is my choice. It ended up alright but it was just a wee bit scary. Now that you and I have a team, what to do next? Get it in the site tools is what you have to do next, my friend.

Waiting For The New Season To Begin

It is that time of year again, and I cannot mention it enough. A Canadian High in

New England presages the winter yet to come. You think it never will happen, but it has happened every year since I have been keeping track. That would be at least since 1982, my friends. You see, the days get short and the sky becomes this color of blue unlike all summer. You have to be an inhabitant of

New England to appreciate this nonsense but it happens nonetheless. It even happens amidst the backdrop of global warming, Mr Gore.

The August in

New England has been fantabulous. No dog days of summer at all!

Even now, this last weekend, has seen 50 degree evenings with low-ish humidity.

The result is a postcard right out of Fall Occasions in a picture by Norman Rockwell.

That is why we live in

New England, my fellow

United Staters and the rest of the world. That is why we endure our six-month winters and our two months of 95 degree days from

Bermuda highs. It’s these “in-between” days. And until the third week of October or so, they will only improve from now on. Maybe we live for these “in-between” days that fall between spring and summer and subsequently summer and fall. Come what may be it: hurricane or rain, we will always have our foliage and pumpkin pie. You will not be able to get a rental car in a month because the “leafers” are coming. That is why we love this area … and it is to begin yet again.

May this be your most successful year. Let the games begin — Season 2008-2009.
