The Diary of a Fantasy Virgin – Week 6

This winning stuff is getting contagious!  From the depths of the ocean that is a 0-3 start, the Virgin is back with two neat wins in a row.  All of this because of some misfortunate (is that a word?) starting running backs.  I feel really bad for Messrs Ahman Green, but sometimes it works out.  Let’s start there, shall we?

Who Is Injured Today?

When you only have one RB, you will look for any backup to help you out. What to do?  You log-in on Saturday or even Sunday and look around.  It is now, about 4 or 5 weeks into the season that injuries start affecting teams.  One such injury afflicted Ahman Green and Najeh Davenport was available.  So, since I am always looking for help, I picked up Najeh and before he got injured, it was 18 points for the Demolition in a position that has been averaging between 0-4 every week.  So with this lucky move, it came to pass that the Demolition won by 21 points over a very good team in our league.  So what is to be learned from this?  Never Give Up!

Never Give Up!

It always looks like the team is in disarray, but the secret is to actively scout this site and the message boards for all things Fantasy Football!  Actively add players that may or may not work out.  For example, the big scuttlebutt this week is the replacement of Deuce McCallister.  Large numbers of teams picked up Stecker and Antowain Smith as possible replacements.  Another one is Tyson Thompson.  Just pick up these RB and you may get the next thing and your team will never be the same.  But it takes persistence and luck.  But until you do the persistent part, you will never be lucky. So keep plucking away.  I think this week’s diary entry should go to a sensitive area.  That’s right, the Boston Red Sox.

Dear Diary

Oh what a difference a year makes.  You see, this time last year, for a 17 day span or so, bleary-eyed Red Sox fans were reporting to work late half alive and half zombie after watching marathon games that lasted 4-6 hours.  Somehow, as we all know, it ended up that the Sox won it all bringing the longest party in Red Sox Nation.  Well, now a year later, the brooms were not only used to clean Fenway, but they were also a metaphor for a Chicago White Sox sweep in the ALDS.

Being from New England it is actually almost comforting to have the Sox disappoint us again.  This time, we can wait until next year but only being 2 seasons removed from the World Series victory makes us handle the adversity all the better.  There will be many changes in the lineup in the off-season and it comes down to signing key players.

I will not speculate on the changes but note that this was probably the last go-around for the nucleus that won it all.  It is pitching, pitching, and more pitching that is sorely needed.  Have an arm?  Come our way.  But it appears to me that every team needs pitching so it’s going to be a spending blitz come November.

Cross your fingers and it may just work out.  Peace has come to New England before the leaves have fallen off the trees.

Oh what a difference a year makes.
