The Hive – week seven

The Hive – Week 7 edition

Welcome back to the week seven edition of The Hive!! This is another tough bye week, as players like Quintin Mikell, Stewart Bradley, Karlos Dansby and John Abraham all have the week off. Let’s take a look at the week seven action; including some hot waiver wire possibilities and some nice bye week fill ins.

How we rank `em!

Giddyup! – YEEEHAW!!

SINS! – solid if not spectacular

Hellno! – Get it? Got it? Good.

BYE WEEKS: Jacksonville, Philadelphia, Arizona, Atlanta

San Diego
@ Buffalo Sunday 10am PT

Giddyup! – Stephen Cooper, Eric Weddle

SINS! – Clinton Hart, Marques Harris, Chargers CB’s

Hellno! – Chargers DL’s

Giddyup! – Paul Posluszny, Donte Whitner

SINS! – Kawicka Mitchell, Kyle Williams (in DT required leagues), Bills CB’s

Hellno! – Aaron Schobel (bump him up to SINS! if he ends up playing), Terrence McGee

Game notes: Cooper and Weddle are the stars of the Chargers defense at this point, though I’d wager Cromartie is started in more IDP leagues than the other two. Consistency is gold in IDP land in my mind, but players like Cromartie are still extremely popular. Harris continues to fill in (admirably I might add) for Jyles Tucker, Tucker’s dyno owners should be hoping Harris hasn’t played his way into a time share upon Tucker’s return. For the Bills the bye week did not seem to help Terrence McGee, and fellow IDP stud Aaron Schobel is not looking good to play this week either. Youboty and Greer could be decent spot starts if you need a CB this week.

New Orleans
@ Carolina Sunday 10am PT

Giddyup! – Jonathan Vilma, Roman Harper

SINS! – Grant/Smith, Scott Fujita, Kevin Kaesviharn (if he is a go)

Hellno! – Mike McKenzie

Giddyup! – Chris Gamble, Jon Beason

SINS! – Chris Harris, Thomas Davis, Julius Peppers

Hellno! – no one you would normally consider

Game notes: Jonathan Vilma is on fire. Keep him in your lineup. Kaesviharn is questionable this week with a back injury, I’d look elsewhere until he plays a full game. For the Panthers I’m about ready to give up on Chris Harris, who has put up one great game, one mediocre game, and then a month long crapfest. It’s a good matchup this week, but Harris will be on the bench in my dyno league in favor of teammate Chris Gamble, who I trust more to give me at least solid tackle numbers against Brees and company.

@ Chicago Sunday 10am PT

Giddyup! – Antoine Winfield, Ben Leber, Chad Greenway, Jared Allen

SINS! – Dontarrious Thomas, Ced Griffin, Darren Sharper

Hellno! – no one you would normally consider

Giddyup! – Charles Tillman (if he is active), Briggs/Urlacher

SINS! – Kevin Payne, Adewale Ogunleye

Hellno! – Mark Anderson

Game notes: Antoine Winfield laid an egg last week after a dominant week 5 performance. I believe he returns to form against the surprisingly successful Bears passing attack. Ben Leber is hot, if he’s on your wire and you need an LB, go get him now. Dontarrious Thomas will start at MLB this week, and might be a decent fill in LB. But the Vikes also signed Napoleon Harris this week, and they may end up competing for, or possibly sharing that job. For the Bears it looks like Charles Tillman is questionable again, so if you own him you owe it to yourself to be on top of the Sunday morning inactives. If Tillman is a go, you must start him. The last time his status was up in the air many people didn’t get him in their lineups, and he had a huge game. Don’t make that mistake this week.

@ Cincinnati Sunday 10am PT

Giddyup! – Harrison/Woodley, Bryant McFadden, Troy Polamalu

SINS! – Aaron Smith, Ike Taylor, James Farrior

Hellno! – Foote/Timmons

Giddyup! – Nedu Ndukwe, Dhani Jones, Keith Rivers

SINS! – Leon Hall, Domata Peko (in DT required leagues)

Hellno! – Bengals DE’s

Game notes: The Steelers D is relatively healthy coming off the bye week, and they are rewarded with a matchup against the pathetic Bengals. Harrison and Woodley are going to have a field day. Nedu Ndukwe is on fire for Cincy, and should not be on any IDP wires right now.

@ Kansas City Sunday 10am PT

Giddyup! – Cortland Finnegan, Albert Haynesworth, Kyle Vanden Bosch

SINS! – Nick Harper, Chris Hope, Michael Griffin, Tony Brown, Keith Bulluck,

Hellno! – No one you would normally consider

Giddyup! – Brandon Flowers, Brandon Carr, Bernard Pollard, Derrick Johnson

SINS! – Pat Thomas

Hellno! – Donnie Edwards, Tamba Hali

Game notes: This is going to be a slaughter. Feel free to start any Titans defensive back or defensive lineman. The LB’s I’m not so hot on this week, especially with Larry Johnson out for KC. The usual suspects should be in play for the Chiefs this week, and with Chris Johnson running to the outside I like the rookie CB’s as much as I would if the Chiefs were playing a passing team.

@ Miami Sunday 10am PT

Giddyup! – Ray Lewis, Terrell Suggs

SINS! – Bart Scott, Haloti Ngata (in DT required leagues), Ed Reed

Hellno! – Chris McCallister

Giddyup! – Joey Porter, Yeremiah Bell

SINS! – Channing Crowder

Hellno! – no one you would normally consider

Game notes: The Ravens are going to be in a foul (no pun intended) mood on Sunday after being embarrassed by the Colts last week. Expect Ray Ray to be especially fired up. Suggs should have a solid game against a questionable Dolphins offensive line. I like Joey Porter this week, especially after Robert Mathis went insane against the Ravens OL in week 6. The addition of Willie Anderson to the Ravens starting line unit should be a big boost for opposing sack masters.

San Francisco
@ New York Giants Sunday 10am PT

Giddyup! – Michael Lewis, Pat Willis, Takeo Spikes, Justin Smith

SINS! – Nate Clements, Walt Harris

Hellno! – no one you would normally consider

Giddyup! – Justin Tuck, Fred Robbins (in DT required leagues)

SINS! – Bryan Kehl, Aaron Ross, Mathias Kiwanuka, Antonio Pierce.

Hellno! – Kenny Phillips

Game notes: Takeo Spikes continued his resurgence last week with another solid line, expect that to continue against a mean Giants run game. Nate Clements and Walt Harris have been disappointments this season so far, they are only options in deep CB required leagues. The Giants D is going to be angry after being shamed by the Browns on MNF. Gerris Wilkinson is out, so rookie Bryan Kehl gets the start at WILL, and is a good bye week filler in deep leagues this week.

@ St. Louis Sunday 10am PT

Giddyup! – Jay Ratliff, Demarcus Ware

SINS! – Zach Thomas, Ken Hamlin, Greg Ellis, Jenkins/Scandrick?

Hellno! – Pacman Jones

Giddyup! – OJ Atogwe

SINS! – Will Witherspoon, Pino Tinoisamoa, Leonard Little, Chris Long

Hellno! – no one you would normally consider

Game notes: Loving the Dallas pass rush this week. Ware and Ratliff should be huge, and this wouldn’t be a bad week to dust off Greg Ellis either. There are conflicting reports as to who starts for the suspended (hopefully for good) Pacman Jones, who I am thoroughly sick of hearing about. Some say Mike Jenkins will start, some say Orlando Scandrick will start. Personally I think Scandrick is a better fit for nickel corner, but we shall see. Keep your eye on this situation, as QB’s, even crappy ones like Bulger, love to pick on rookie CB’s.

@ Houston Sunday 1:05pm PT

Giddyup! – Daniel Bullucks, Leigh Bodden, Ernie Sims

SINS! – Paris Lenon, DeWayne White

Hellno! – no one you would normally consider

Giddyup! – Mario Williams

SINS! – Brandon Harrison, Ryans/Diles

Hellno! – no one you would normally consider

Game notes: Leigh Bodden vs Andre Johnson could be one of the tastiest IDP matchups of the week. 10 tackles is not unrealistic for Bodden this week, and he should be in all DB required lineups. Daniel Bullucks now has no competition for his job whatsoever, as Gerald Alexander went on IR this week. For the Texans Mario Williams is en fuego, and I expect that to continue in a big way versus the pathetic Lions offensive line. With Demeco Ryans playing through pain and the complete lack of a running attack in Detroit I am not as high on him, or Zach Diles for that matter, as I would be if the Texans were playing an actual NFL team.

@ Green Bay Sunday 1:15pm PT

Giddyup! – Melvin Bullitt, Freddy Keiaho, Robert Mathis

SINS! – Gary Brackett, Tim Jennings, Marlin Jackson

Hellno! – Dwight Freeney

Giddyup! – Aaron Kampman, Tramon Williams, Nick Collins, Charles Woodson

SINS! – Nick Barnett, AJ Hawk

Hellno! – KGB, Atari Bigby (due back after bye week)

Game notes: For those who read The Hive, you are welcome for the DB blessing known as Melvin Bullitt. Bob who?? Ride the wave, as Sanders won’t be back until November at the earliest. As I mentioned before, Robert Mathis went completely insane last week. He is matched up with Tauscher and not Chad “I made Jared Allen my girlfriend” Clifton this week, so I think he has a good shot at another studly stat line. For the Pack do not expect Atari Bigby back until after their bye week. Charles Woodson and Tramon Williams should be busy this week, I like the latter a bit more than the former. Williams is a human turnstile, which means tackles, tackles, tackles.

New York
Jets @ Oakland Sunday 1:15pm PT

Giddyup! – Kerry Rhodes, David Harris, Calvin Pace

SINS! – Bryan Thomas (is a Giddyup! if he has DL eligibility in your league), Darrelle Revis

Hellno! – Swipe Lowery, Vernon Gholston

Giddyup! – Kirk Morrison, Gibril Wilson, Deangelo Hall

SINS! – Thomas Howard

Hellno! – Derrick Burgess, Michael Huff

Game notes: Kerry Rhodes, I still believe in you!! Don’t know why, but I do. safeties do well against the Raiders, so I am sticking with Rhodes this week. For the Raiders do not expect the same stat line out of Thomas Howard that he put up last week, I believe Morrison will be the top Raiders LB as usual this week. Oh, and I called Howard last week. *Pats self on back*

@ Washington Sunday 1:15pm PT

Giddyup! – D`Qwell Jackson, Sean Jones, Eric Wright

SINS! – Brandon McDonald, Brodney Pool

Hellno! – Mike Adams

Giddyup! – Chris Horton, London Fletcher

SINS! – Rocky McIntosh, Carlos Rogers, Jason Taylor, Andre Carter, Shawn Springs

Hellno! – Marcus Washington

Game notes: Sean Jones is back for the Browns, and he should not be on the wire in any DB required league. Mike Adams’ run of usefulness is over. Eric Wright had a huge game last week, and will likely draw Santana Moss this week. Should be a fun matchup. On the `Skins side of things, rookie SS Chris Horton is now starting, and unless Leigh Bodden is on your wire, should be the #1 DB wire target this week. Kid is a playmaker, and I expect his run of high production to continue.

@ Tampa Bay Sunday 5:15pm PT

Giddyup! – Lofa Tatupu, Pat Kerney

SINS! – Leroy Hill, Julian Peterson, Deon Grant

Hellno! – Marcus Trufant

Giddyup! – Jermaine Phillips, Barrett Ruud

SINS! – Gaines Adams, Derrick Brooks, Ronde Barber, Tanard Jackson

Hellno! –
no one you would normally consider

Game notes: Lofa Tatupu, welcome back! Or as many of his owners likely said last week “about damn time!” Hopefully last week is the start of a trend and not an aberration. For the Bucs I would roll with Phillips and Ruud this week, and Derrick Brooks may be a solid start as well. With Seneca Wallace in I expect a lot of running and a lot of dink-and-dunk passing.

@ New England Monday 5:30pm PT

Giddyup! – Nate Webster, DJ Williams

SINS! – Marquand Manuel, Calvin Lowery, John Engelberger

Hellno! – Champ Bailey

Giddyup! – Rodney Harrison, Ellis Hobbs

SINS! – Ty Warren, Brandon Merriweather, Jerod Mayo

Hellno! – Richard Seymour

Game notes: The Broncos will have a new FS this week, as former Titan Calvin Lowery takes over for Marlon McCree. The Broncos FS position hasn’t produced many points this season, but keep an eye on Lowery and see if he does anything with the gig. Champ Bailey is still being treated like a shut down corner, and is not seeing many balls in his direction. He is not IDP relevant at this point unless you are a MAJOR risk taker. For the Pats I think Ellis Hobbs is an excellent start this week versus the vertical attack of the Broncos. Rodney Harrison is also an excellent start, and in a pinch I wouldn’t mind putting Brandon Merriweather out there and seeing if he could get me a pick or two.

Well that about wraps things up for week seven. As always, thanks for stopping by and I hope to see you back here next week! Good luck in all of your IDP matchups!
