The Prognosticator: Week 13

Week 13

Welcome my fantasy brethren to another edition of The Prognosticator.  May it lighten your load this Thanksgiving day.

I apologize for the brevity of this column this week but with our article deadlines scrunched up into a short week there just aren’t enough hours.  I made a change to the weekly table below to use blue for cold and red for hot.  The table should be used as a guide to help you quickly locate areas to lay your fantasy hat this weekend.  Red is a smoking hot bevy of statistics and dark blue is a barren deep ocean floor.  Stay away from the dark blues and you’ll be fine.  It’s a roadmap to victory if you will.

Wagers
Initial Bankroll: $500 Geoffrey Dollars.
Current Bankroll: $315 Geoffrey Dollars.
Last Week: Pushed on the Colts -3.

Only one game we’re looking at this week as the Bengals are hot and Marv Lewis has them playing way above their heads.

This Week: $55/50 Bengals +3 over the Steelers.

Green Bay Packers at Detroit Lions – Thursday 12:30pm

*** Co RB of the Week Award: Ahman Green ***

I’m just not happy with the Packers defense and if they don’t pick it up soon, the Packers aren’t going to go anywhere in the playoffs.  Packers enjoy a nice day on the ground.

I almost prefer the Lions defense over the Packers, almost.  Stay away.

Prediction: Packers 23 – Lions 17  (Packers -6.5)

Miami Dolphins at Dallas Cowboys – Thursday 4:05pm

This will be a defensive struggle with little to no action.  The Lions up first as we watch Ahman Green run hog wild, followed by this chess match?  Great.  Just super.  Thank you NFL.

Be very afraid of starting anyone in this contest.  The Dolphins are a better team with Jay Fiedler back but you already knew that if you’ve been paying attention to this column.  Brian Griese is, and was, destined to fail in the NFL because of his Dad.  I’ve typed it here for years.

Prediction: Cowboys 21 – Dolphins 17  (Cowboys -3)

Arizona Cardinals at Chicago Bears – Sunday 1:00pm

Cardinals don’t really know how to score and the Bears do.  Bears are a scrappy team that have been taking care of the football lately and that’s been the difference.  The Bears are playing disciplined football.

Prediction: Bears 27 – Cardinals 17  (Bears -4.5)

Philadelphia Eagles at Carolina Panthers – Sunday 1:00pm

Eagles are on a roll and there’s no reason to expect them to get off it.  Eagles will spread it around a lot and show a lot of different looks for the Panthers D.

Panthers will run Stephen Davis.  Stop.

Prediction: Eagles 27 – Panthers 23  (Panthers -1.5)

Buffalo Bills at NY Giants – Sunday 1:00pm

*** Low Score of the Week Award ***

Yawn.  Travis Henry, broken bone and all, kept the pile moving last week.  Look for him to be the only bright spot in this contest.  Bills have been playing solid D and the Giants lost the wind from their sails.

Prediction: Giants 21 – Bills 13  (Giants -3.5)

Atlanta Falcons at Houston Texans – Sunday 1:00pm

Dunn is done.  What a blow for the Falcons best player.  That’ll rush Michael Vick back to his doctor for another note for Dan Reeves.

Look for some good running from TJ Duckett and Domanick Davis this week.  Both score.

Prediction: Texans 30 – Falcons 27  (Texans -3)

San Francisco 49’ers at Baltimore Ravens – Sunday 1:00pm

No real statistics out of this contest either.  Average day on tap for both offenses as they have some success with an equal amount of failure.  Look for a defensive TD in this.  Baltimore needs to do a much better job of holding onto the football.

Prediction: Ravens 30 – 49’ers 23  (Ravens -3)

Minnesota Vikings at Saint Louis Rams – Sunday 1:00pm

There will be offense pouring out of the pores of this game, especially in both passing games.  Bulger to Holt and Culpepper to Moss will be alive this Sunday.  Running games from both teams help move the chains but the tall guys get it done.

Prediction: Rams 34 – Vikings 21  (Rams -6)

Cincinnati Bengals at Pittsburgh Steelers – Sunday 1:00pm
*** WR of the Week Award: Chad Johnson ***

The Bengal offense is simply sick right now.  They are moving the ball at will, they run red zone plays with efficiency and they’re protecting the football ferociously.

Tommy Maddox threw for 73 yards last week.  Do you really need to know anything else?

Prediction: Bengals 31 – Steelers 23  (Steelers -3)

New England Patriots at Indianapolis Colts – Sunday 1:00pm

Both offenses will click in the air but the difference, and why the Colts will win, is Edgerrin James.  In this contest, he is the edge.  That’s not to say he’s in for a big day, far from it, he’s just the more complete player who looks to be coming into his own right now.

Prediction: Colts 28 – Patriots 20  (Colts -4)

New Orleans Saints at Washington Redskins – Sunday 4:05pm

*** Co RB of the Week Award: Deuce McAlister ***

McAlister continues to impress and that will keep on giving.  Look for a mini-explosion from the Saints this week.

The Redskins scrap and find ways to move the ball.  They’ll be grounded this week if Ramsey can’t play due to his concussion last week.  What a mess.  Great QB on a team that has no idea how to protect him.

Still taking the Redskins to win regardless.

Prediction: Redskins 28 – Saints 24  (Redskins -1)

Kansas City Chiefs at San Diego Chargers – Sunday 4:15pm

*** QB of the Week Award: Trent Green ***

*** High Score of the Week Award ***

It is possible that the Chiefs have lost a little something and that something is Priest Holmes.  While he is a major cog in their offense still, he looks to be slowing down after a long season of hits.  Look for Trent Green to continue to put this team on his back.

The Chargers run Tomlinson, throw to Tomlinson and heck, why don’t you let Tomlinson coach as well?

Prediction: Chiefs 32 – Chargers 27  (Chiefs -7)

Cleveland Browns at Seattle Seahawks – Sunday 4:15pm

It may not seem it but these two teams are very evenly matched.  Cleveland with a slight edge offense to defense over the Seahawks but the Seahawks operate better in the red zone.  Turnover edge goes slightly to the Browns but the Seahawks are at home.

Look for both teams to emphasize their passing games.  Last possession wins.

Prediction: Seahawks 28 – Browns 24  (Seahawks -5.5)

Denver Broncos at Oakland Raiders – Sunday 4:15pm

Clinton Portis is the best play in this with the rest of this cast having very average days.  Raiders have been feisty lately and the Broncos haven’t been.  In Oakland, we’re giving the edge to the Raiders.

Prediction: Raiders 21 – Broncos 20  (Broncos -3)

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Jacksonville Jaguars – Sunday 8:30pm

The Bucs have been sloppy with the football.  If you remember, they crawled their way into the Monday night game last week against the Giants.  They were getting their butts handed to them by poor teams.  They made a lot of mistakes in the Monday night game and till they solve that, they’re going to be very beatable.

Surprise!  Jaguars will not be embarrassed on a national game.  They don’t get too many of these.

Prediction: Jaguars 20 – Bucs 17  (Bucs -3.5)

Tennessee Titans at NY Jets – Monday 9:00pm

Eddie George’s last hurrah on Monday Night?  I think so.  Look for a huge night from Eddie.

Jets will counter with solid production out of Pennington to Moss because they have to.  They will not be running the ball on the Titans.  Titans defense has been monstrous lately.

Prediction: Titans 32 – Jets 24  (Titans -1)
