The Seadog Report

Greetings Sharkfans, welcome to the latest installment of the Seadog Report! I know this is an IDP article, but I need to interject a little rant from the offensive side of the ball. Billy Volek killed me this week. I play in this total points dynasty league and I had a solid grip on 3rd place heading into week 15, and thanks in part to Mr. Volek I was actually within striking distance of the 1st and 2nd place teams. However, I needed another 400 yard/multi-TD performance from my QB for week 16. I picked Volek to start over Drew Brees. I knew it was a more risky choice, but I had to try for it. I figured Brees would get 250 yds/2 TDs and I was looking for 400+ yds/2 TDs, so I went with Volek. Oops. There goes my season. Well, I guess I still have a slim shot, but week 17 is always a crapshoot. It doesn’t bode very well for me.

Anyways, where was I? Oh yeah, IDP talk – let’s do it one more time, shall we?

 This past week’s Top Dawgs

DL Chike Okeafor SEA  I never thought I’d be writing his name down here at all this year. (9 tackles, 2 sacks, and a forced fumble) Way to go Chike baby!

LB Steve Foley SD  Foley has been putting up very respectable numbers all year long and this week was no exception –  5 tackles, 1 assist, 3 sacks, and 1 forced fumble – very impressive, Steve!

DB Shawn Springs WAS   (6 tackles, 1 assist, 2 sacks, 1 pass-defensed, and 1 int)  Concussion? What concussion?

Seadog’s picks of the week

As I mentioned previously, week 17 is a real crapshoot. Playoff bound teams may or may not sit some of there starters before or during the game. Your best bet, if you are still playing fantasy football in week 17, is to try to play guys who are either playing on a team that is playing a meaningful game (i.e. trying to get into the playoffs) or playing for incentive – their last game of the year.

Teams fighting for a possible playoff berth:

AFC

Buffalo

New York Jets

Baltimore

Jacksonville

Denver

NFC

Minnesota

Carolina

New Orleans

St. Louis

Seattle (clinched a playoff berth, Division title is at stake)

Teams that have clinched a Division title and/or 1st round bye:

AFC

New England

Pittsburgh

Indianapolis

San Diego

NFC

Philadelphia

Atlanta

Green Bay

So, here are some plays that I like this week:

DL James Hall DET vs. Tennessee

DL Aaron Schobel BUF vs. Pittsburgh

DL Chike Okeafor SEA vs. Atlanta

DL Reggie Hayward DEN vs. Indianapolis

DL Adewale Ogunleye/ Alex Brown CHI vs. Green Bay

LB Brian Simmons CIN vs. Philadelphia

LB Takeo Spikes BUF vs. Pittsburgh

LB Keith Bullock TEN vs. Detroit

LB Dan Morgan CAR vs. New Orleans

LB Lance Briggs CHI vs. Green Bay

LB Jonathan Vilma NYJ vs. St. Louis

LB Mike Peterson JAX vs. Oakland

DB Madieu Williams CIN vs. Philadelphia

DB Ed Reed BAL vs. Miami

DB Chris Gamble CAR vs. New Orleans

DB Terrance McGee BUF vs. Pittsburgh

DB Jerry Azumah CHI vs. Green Bay

DB Dunta Robinson HOU vs. Cleveland

Remember; ALWAYS play Ray and Rodney (even this week unless you know he’s out!)

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention something about Reggie White – one of the greatest defensive linemen ever to play the game (not to mention a veritable IDP wrecking ball). Not only was he a great person on the field, but off the field as well. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this time. Thank you Reggie – you will be missed.
