Trent, it is sad to see you go. You may have some serious weapons in Priest Holmes and Tony Gonzalez. You may be headed to the Superbowl. You may get to see Dick Vermeil cry. But you will not be winning the Ultimate Fantasy Quarterback contest for this year. After receiving 80% of the vote, you were easily eliminated by Steve McNair.
Before I review the remaining contestants, I must give a standing ovation for the effort put forth this week by Jeff Garcia. It seemed that every time I looked at the scoreboard, San Francisco was putting up another touchdown. Jeff came back from his ankle injury and tossed for 252 Yds and 4 TDs. He also rushed for another 2 TDs scoring a total of 51 fantasy points.
So we are down to just 5 quarterbacks eligible:
The real Daunte Culpepper played this week and the Vikings easily took care of the visiting Seahawks. He threw for 274 Yds and 3 TDs for 31 fantasy points. Minnesota will probably hang on and make the playoffs, but which Viking team will show up?
Steve McNair had a gutsy performance in a losing effort to the Colts. Late in the game, still hobbled from some serious hits by the Indy defense, McNair led the Titans on a scoring drive with a sweet Derrick Mason catch in the back of the endzone. Unfortunately they couldn’t convert the 2-point conversion to tie the game. Steve ended up passing for 235 Yds and 3 TDs (1 of them rushing) also for 31 fantasy points.
Brett Favre led the Pack to victory after falling behind by 2 touchdowns early in the game to division rival Chicago. Brett wasn’t spectacular, but he did enough to win the game with 210 Yds passing and 1 TD for 16 fantasy points.
Peyton Manning did everything necessary for the Colts to win the game. Fortunately for Edgerrin James owners, he set up 2 short touchdown runs. One of the drives included one of the nicest one-handed catches you will see all year from Marvin Harrison. Peyton finished the game with 228 Yds passing, 20 Yds rushing and 0 TDs for 13 fantasy points.
Matt Hasselbeck and the rest of the Seahawks struggled this week against the Vikings. Not much offense to go around with Alexander getting just 56 Yds rushing and Matt passing for 218 Yds and 0 TDs for 10 fantasy points. Not all was lost for the Hasselbeck family as brother Tim led the Redskins to a victory over the NY Giants.
Here is the current status of the contestant pool:
Drew Bledsoe Tom Brady Drew Brees Aaron Brooks Kerry Collins Daunte Culpepper
Rich Gannon Jeff Garcia Trent Green Matt Hasselbeck Kelly Holcomb Tommy Maddox Peyton Manning Donovan McNabb
Jake Plummer Kurt Warner
This week you get to vote between Peyton Manning and Matt Hasselbeck.
