It was quite a battle in the voting this past week between Jeff Garcia and Kelly Holcomb. Kelly ended up being the loser with 57% of the votes. Not only is he out of the competition, but with the way Tim Couch is playing, Kelly may have lost his starting job in Cleveland as well.
Jeff Garcia was sparked by his nomination and posted the 6th highest score for a QB in week 5, throwing for only 192 Yds with 2TDs. He also scampered in for another score and totaled 30 fantasy points. Something tells me however, if San Fran doesn’t get their act together soon, Jeff will be right back on the nomination block so keep your votes ready.
Looking at the stats sheet, it is obvious there is a lack of a running game in Tennessee. Eddie George is having one of his worst seasons ever and the passing yards in Titanland are the beneficiary. Steve McNair this week threw for 391 Yds for 0 TDs but did run in two short scores. McNair may be sitting on a roster as the backup for a higher profile passer in your league. If you need a QB upgrade, look into the possibilities of trading for Air McNair because Tennessee will continue to rely on tossing the ball downfield as George continues to struggle
Drew Brees and David Boston got on track this week. Brees threw for 296 Yds and 3 TDs. Boston aimed to show his team that he wants to play catching 14 balls for 181 Yds.
The Monday night matchup has been producing some great QB performances and this week was no exception. Brad Johnson and Peyton Manning both scored well as the game became a shootout and went into overtime. The win by Indy was deemed the greatest comeback in NFL history as the Colts were down by 21 points with about 4 minutes to go. After scoring 3 late TDs, the colts need a second chance field goal by Mike Vanderjagt to cap off a tremendous win.
Here is the current status of the contestant pool:
Drew Bledsoe Tom Brady Drew Brees
Aaron Brooks Kerry Collins Daunte Culpepper
Rich Gannon Jeff Garcia
Trent Green Matt Hasselbeck
Tommy Maddox Peyton Manning Donovan McNabb
Jake Plummer Kurt Warner
Here are the nominations for this week:
Tommy Maddox (Pittsburgh) – The entire Pittsburgh offense struggled this week. Tommy threw for only 136 Yds and 0 TDs for 6 fantasy points. Any Plaxico Burress owners out there scratching their heads with what to do with him?
Matt Hasselbeck (Seattle) – The Fantasy Sharks scoring system is geared towards TDs so if you don’t score any, you point total will be low. The powerful Seattle offense was shut down in a blowout loss to the Packers. Matt struggled and threw for just 225 Yds with 0 TDs for 11 fantasy points.
Daunte Culpepper (Minnesota) – Daunte spent the second week in a row on the bench with an injured back. Gus Frerotte may try and find a way to keep him there because he and Randy Moss seem to have a connection. The Vikings have a bye this week and that may be just enough to get Culpepper back on the field. But will he still be in the competition by then?
