Ultimate Fantasy Quarterback – Week 7

For the second week in a row, the man named Tom was eliminated.  Last week it was Tommy Maddox and this week Tom Brady with 82% of the vote.  Tom lost to the man he took the job from in New England, Drew Bledsoe.

Also, and what has become the custom, being nominated served as a wakeup call for Mr. Brady.  In week 7, he threw for 283 Yds and 2 TDs for 26 fantasy points.  His stats included a thrilling overtime touchdown toss to WR Troy Brown.  Unfortunately it was too late and he has been eliminated from the competition.

Aaron Brooks finally showed up this fantasy season and had a huge week.  He connected with his receivers for 352 Yds and 3 TDs for 36 fantasy points.  This could be the start of some good fantasy production from all of the New Orleans offensive players.

Marc Bulger, Jon Kitna, and Quincy Carter all threw for 3 TDs this past week and Jake Delhomme tossed for 362 Yds (151 of them to WR Steve Smith) although in a losing effort.  Throw in Kyle Boller for 302 Yds to this mix and you have some very strong fantasy production from a group of guys that probably went undrafted in most fantasy leagues.  Other than Bulger, there is a good chance that these guys are still on the waiver wire too.  I’m not trying to suggest you drop someone to pick up Boller or Delhomme, but it does show that unlike other positions, you can get a very good fantasy QB late in your draft.

Here is the current status of the contestant pool:

Drew Bledsoe            Tom Brady               Drew Brees

Aaron Brooks            Kerry Collins             Daunte Culpepper

Brett Favre              Rich Gannon             Jeff Garcia

Trent Green             Matt Hasselbeck       Kelly Holcomb

Tommy Maddox        Peyton Manning        Donovan McNabb

Steve McNair           Jake Plummer           Kurt Warner

This week’s matchup involves Donovan McNabb and Drew Brees.  Both of these guys have struggled after entering the season with high aspirations.

Donovan McNabb (Philadelphia) – Donovan has been truly horrible this season.  The expectations were high for him and the entire Eagles team.  A lot of people expected them to challenge for their 3rd straight NFC Title game.  But the Eagles offense is sputtering, they have no running game and if it wasn’t for a late punt return for a TD, the Eagles would be out of the NFC East race already.  Donovan threw for just 64 Yds, no touchdowns and 1 interception for 3 fantasy points.

Drew Brees (San Diego) – Drew is fortunate that he has stud RB LaDainian Tomlinson to carry the ball for him.  Tomlinson carried for 200 Yds and San Diego won their first game of the season.  Drew however threw for just 74 Yds, no touchdowns and 1 interception for 3 fantasy points.

Your vote will count as we look to name the Ultimate Fantasy Quarterback!
