It’s the stretch run baby! And best of all…the bye weeks are over! Chances are that you’re in the playoff mix and even at this late point in the season, your squad just can’t have too much depth. There’s still some talent out there on the waiver wire, so drop the bums and flyers from your squad and get some quick and easy production NOW!!
Anthony Thomas RB Buffalo Bills
All aboard…the A-Train is leaving the station again! Well, maybe. With Willis McGahee getting knocked out of action early in the Bills game against the Packers, Thomas came off the bench to rack up 20 carries for 95 yards and a TD. While it’s unclear whether McGahee will miss time, early indications are that a rib is broken and he may ride pine for a game or two. To get a starting RB at this late point of the season, especially with doughboy-soft run defenses like Indy and Houston next on the schedule, you *have* to be all over this waiver wire pickup like a hobo on a ham sandwich! A-Train isn’t an All-Pro, but he’ll score some respectable points for your squad over the next couple of weeks if McGahee is out.
David Garrard QB Jacksonville Jaguars
As much as Jack Del Rio has been saying that Byron Leftwich is his starter, Fat Albert is still on the bench even after all acknowlege that he’s fully healthy. The Jags are playing good ball and looked like a playoff team while taking the Titans behing the woodshed this past weekend. The hook may be short, but Garrard looks to be the man as long as the wins keep rolling in, and he makes a pretty decent start against the hapless Texans this coming weekend. Start at your own risk, as it may take only a bad series or two to get Byron back in the mix.
New Orleans Saints Defense
The ‘Aints are rollin’ on offense, and the D ain’t bad either, holding Tampa Bay to just 14 points this past weekend, while forcing 3 fumbles and getting 4 sacks. The Steelers are up this week and Big Ben is throwing interceptions around like beads at Mardi Gras. If you’re looking for a defense this week, look no further than the Big Easy!
Ernest Wilford WR Jacksonville Jaguars
As the starting QB changes, often the favored receiver changes as well. Wilford and Garrard hooked up for 2 TDs this past weekend and along with Garrard, makes for a pretty fair start again Houston this weekend.
On the Radar
Devery Henderson WR New Orleans Saints
He’s not stealing bases for the A’s and isn’t a lovely lady with three girls of her own, but this Henderson caught a couple of bombs this weekend and ended up with 111 receiving yards and 2 TDs. He hadn’t shown too much before this game, but if Joe Horn continues to miss time, upgrade Henderson to the Solid Pickup category. The Steelers will give up passing yards, as will the Bengals the following week.
Noah Herron RB Green Bay Packers
Unless Ahman Green gets hurt, Herron has no value as a runner. But the Pack were looking for him early and often as a receiver out of the backfield and he caught 7 balls for 57 yards against the Bills this week. And with Vernand Morency ailing, he’s the only show in town as Green’s backup. Not an incredibly appealing start, but if your league rewards receptions and you have large starting lineup requirements, Herron might be worth a flyer.
Kevin Curtis WR St Louis Rams
Curtis had a fine game as a slot receiver, catching 7 balls for 59 yards and a TD. Watch the injury report before picking him up though, he took a shot on the final play of the game and may be injured.
Cedric Cobbs RB Denver Broncos
You’re not reading the works of a big Cobbs fan here, but he is getting a few carries in place of the sore-piggied Tatum Bell. He ran soft with the Pats and we’ve yet to see much to get excited about here, but if you’re one of those people who simply *must* have as many Bronco RBs on your roster as possible…and I know you’re out there…Cobbs is in the mix to some minor extent.
