Waiver Wire Wonders – Week 17

We have an abbreviated version this week, even at this late stage it has been that kind of season where teams may need to add a player and drop them into their starting lineup. The final week of the season is always a little wonky for those of you that still have meaningful games, the difficulty is finding players that are going to play in the final week of the season – no easy task! We glob together a single list this week, from top to bottom of importance, good luck to those still fighting for their crown!

Thanks for your patronage all season, it has been a pleasure. We will close things out next week with our annual “All-Waiver Wire Team” so come on back for that. Until then, on to this week’s wonders!

WR Keshawn Martin, New England

With starters Danny Amendola and Julian Edelman likely to take the week off, the Patriots will use a heavy dose of Martin in the final week of the season. Last week against the Jets, Martin caught seven passes for 68 yards and threw in a rushing attempt for good measure. Look for Martin to have a very strong week to close out the season.

RB Mike Gillislee, Buffalo

The Bills will be playing hard this week against the Jets, and though this is a difficult matchup on paper, look for Gillislee to see plenty of touches as Rex Ryan wants to take a piece out of his old team. Sharing the load with Karlos Williams, Gillislee nearly got up and over 100 yards last week against the Cowboys on just nine carries. The yards will be tougher to come by, but there is good potential for him to find the end zone this week.

RB Ka’Deem Casey, Chicago

Chicago RB Ka’Deem Carey.

With nothing much to play for and Matt Forte dealing with a back injury, Week 17 is prime for a player like Casey to shine with flying colors. Last week, Casey found the end zone twice, once on the ground and once in the air, on his way to touching the ball eight times. There is no reason for the Bears to rush Forte back so look for Casey to see plenty of touches as he shares the backfield with Jeremy Langford.
