It’s Week 17 and time for the final Waiver Wire Wonders of the season. Thanks for your continued patronage. We will put a bow on the season next week with our annual “All Waiver Wire” team, a celebration of those players that were on waivers and became valuable fantasy contributors. Until then, we have an abbreviated list of players that are likely to be a help in the final week of the season. Happy New Year to All!
RB Shaun Draughn, San Francisco
Despite the tough matchup against the Seahawks, Draughn tops this week’s list as the top add. With starter Carlos Hyde injured and ruled out for the final week of the season, Draughn is in line for a big workload. There will be difficulty in the ground game, but Draughn is adept in the passing game and will see plenty of action in the air. Last week against the Rams, he caught six passes for 48 yards, look for another big day for him catching balls out of the backfield.
RB Alfred Blue, Houston
Filling in for the injured Lamar Miller, Blue was the featured back against the Bengals. He did not disappoint, rushing for 73 yards and a touchdown. He also added four catches for another 17 yards. The Texans are locked in as the AFC South champions, which means it is unlikely they will rush Miller back in a meaningless game. Look for Blue to once again be the top back against a Tennessee defense that can be run on.
RB DeAndre Washington, Oakland
Washington had a huge game this past week, rushing for 99 yards and two scores against the Colts. We would have him listed higher in this week’s story, but the Broncos will be more difficult to run against in Week 17. And we also have Jalen Richard and Latavius Murray in the mix for carries. The Raiders will be without Derek Carr, so the offense will be heavy on the run, look for Washington to have the opportunity to get an above average workload in the final week of the regular season.
