The Dive – Week 12 (Turkey, Stuffing, and an Inadvertent Whistle)

Week 11 was strange. Passing yards were down, referee snafus were on high, and serious injuries continued to plague the NFL. On Monday Night Football, a long New England pass play with touchdown potential was eliminated after a referee inadvertently blew his whistle. Tom Brady and Danny Amendola owners were devastated as many matchups were lost due to this snafu.

As we celebrate Thanksgiving with our families, let’s take a dive into several key matchups for Week 12.

QB Philip Rivers

The San Diego Chargers have lost six games in a row and have fallen to the cellar in the AFC West. Philip Rivers has generally served as a second-tier fantasy quarterback, but greatly disappointed owners with a Week 11 dud. Regardless, stick with Rivers for Week 12 as San Diego attempts to escape its rut with a visit to Jacksonville. Expect a high-scoring shootout with both defenses weak against the secondary. Although Rivers may have less weapons these days, he should be a solid start this weekend.

Week 12 Projection: 250 passing yards, 2 TD

RB Alfred Blue

Houston RB Alfred Blue.

After Arian Foster’s season-ending injury, Houston’s starting running back job has been Alfred Blue’s to lose. Well, he has not lost the job, but certainly has done little to keep it. Regardless, Blue has 12-or-more carries over the last three games and played a role in the passing game as well. With a matchup against New Orleans, who has surrendered the fourth-most fantasy points to opposing backs, Blue should find his way again into the end zone either by air or ground in Week 12.

Week 12 Projection: 100 total yards, TD

WR J.J. Nelson

When opportunity knocks, J.J. Nelson answers! With Michael Floyd hobbled with an injury in Week 11, Nelson made the most of his playing time with four catches for 142 yards and a touchdown. With a strong chance that Floyd misses Week 12, look for the rookie receiver to excel against a weak San Francisco secondary that has allowed the seventh-most points to opposing wideouts.

Week 12 Projection: 80 receiving yards, TD

TE Zach Miller

With Martellus Bennett out for the Thanksgiving game, Miller has another opportunity to shine. Miller has been solid over the last three games and should thrive in Thursday’s start. He will be defended by Green Bay, who has been susceptible to tight ends and allowed the seventh-most points to tight ends, including more than 100 receiving yards in three of the last five games.

Week 12 Projection: 60 receiving yards, TD

Cleveland D/ST

Cleveland’s defense has not been nearly as solid as 2014. However, Cleveland will face an embattled Baltimore offense that has lost Joe Flacco, Justin Forsett and Steve Smith. With Matt Schaub as signal caller, Cleveland should feast on a weak offense and serve as a great plug-and-play for Week 12.

Week 12 Projection: 12 points

Week 11 Results:

QB Derek Carr

Week 11 Projection: 275 passing yards, 2 passing TD

Week 11 Results: 169 passing yards (bad call)

RB Jay Ajayi

Week 11 Projection: 75 total yards, TD

Week 11 Results: 36 total yards (bad call)

WR Danny Amendola

Week 11 Projection: 100 receiving yards, TD

Week 11 Results: 117 receiving yards (good call)

TE Clive Walford

Week 11 Projection: 50 receiving yards, TD

Week 11 Results: 25 receiving yards

Defense/Special Teams – Chicago Bears

Week 11 Projection: 11 points

Week 11 Results: 6 points (OK call)

Have a great Thanksgiving and good luck in Week 12.
