Week 5 – Survivor Pools

There were not any major upsets in Week 4 as the favorites dominated the schedule. Home teams were 12-2 over the weekend as the Giants and Bengals were the only road teams to win. I continue to lean toward the home team in my selection process, but check out my Week 5 analysis and see if the trend continues …

Previous Selections

Week 1

New England

– Win

Week 2

Green Bay

– Loss

Week 3

– Win

Week 4

– Win

Week 5 games …

Bengals @ Ravens – A battle for first place in the AFC North takes place in

Baltimore. The Steelers sit in third place at 2-2, but have a few easy games ahead. Stay away from this one despite the

Baltimore being a big home favorite.

Raiders @ Giants – Maybe I am too cautious, but I’m not risking my Giants this weekend. It is the third straight game against a very weak opponent and Eli Manning’s status is in question. He hopes to play, but either way, I am going to avoid this one with the numerous options.

Cowboys @ Chiefs – I’m not trusting the Cowboys on the road, even against

Kansas City.

Redskins @ Panthers – Two disappointing teams face off in Week 5. The Skins have two wins, though, while the Panthers are 0-3.

Vikings @ Rams – The Vikes are coming off an emotional Monday night win and will travel to

St. Louis to take on the embarrassed Rams. I don’t think the Rams will win and this shouldn’t be close, but I’ll hold off on

Minnesota this week.

Bucs @ Eagles – Donovan McNabb and Brian Westbrook should be back this weekend and that makes the Eagles an option this weekend against the hopeless Bucs.

Steelers @ Lions –

Pittsburgh will head go back to the destination where they won the Super Bowl a few years ago. They’ll leave

Detroit with another victory as they need to pick up a few wins against inferior opponents to keep pace in the AFC North.

Browns @ Bills – Yuck.

Falcons @ 49ers – Interesting game in the NFC.

Texans @ Cardinals – Andre vs. Fitz. This should be fun. Fantasy owners hoping for a lot of points in this one.

Patriots @ Broncos – Big game in the AFC.

Jaguars @ Seahawks – Tough game to call. Are the Jags coming on?

Seattle is always tough at home.

Colts @ Titans – What a difference a year makes.

Tennessee took this game last year in primetime against

Indianapolis, but they sit in last place at 0-4 this season. The Titans might take this one, too, so stay away.

Jets @ Dolphins –

Miami looked impressive last week, but

Buffalo has not looked good. This is a rivalry you do not want any part of.

My picks

: Eagles, Vikes, Giants? I’ll go to the AFC for my selection as I am 3-0 in that conference.

Pittsburgh will dismantle the Lions in

Detroit on Sunday as they need this game to get over .500.

Matthew Stafford’s status is unknown for this game, but that doesn’t matter either way. The

Steelers are my Week 5 selection.
