Whale Shark Interview – Mitjones

Congrats Mitjones on becoming another of our our Whale Sharks, 1000 messages on the Msg Boards!!
Yeah, it has been a fun ride.

Well, your another person that doesn’t give me much to work with. No location, interests.. nothing. So, tell us a little about yourself.
I am 25 years old and live in Florence, Alabama (Northwest Corner). I am currently working in construction management for a decent sized commercial construction company. I am married to a beautiful woman, have no children and I am a devout Christian. I guess my main hobby would be long distance running. I like to run a lot. My wife and I mostly do 5K’s & 10K’s, and we just did our first marathon this past October (Twin Cities), where I ran a 2:39, which I thought was okay for my first one. I won’t ever make the Olympics, but do hope to win a lot of races in my lifetime.

With a 2:39 time..Indeed! So, who’s your NFL team.
My favorite team would be the Rams. I love the way they play offense and Martz is a fun coach to watch. I also like the Titans & Falcons because I live so close to where they are and inevitably I end up going with the crowd. Vick and McNair are very fun to watch also.

And your favorite NFL Player, past and present then?
This is an easy one. Barry Sanders. I grew up when he was in his prime and I just loved the way he played and the excitement and thrill he brought to every game. He also was a great example of how to act and how to handle fame, unlike many of todays star players.

How about a Super Bowl prediction from you.
I am going out on a limb and saying the Rams & Colts. I am not sure if it is going to happen, but what a high-scoring shootout that would be. It would be a very fun game to watch. Titans & Panthers are probably the more realistic guess.

Nice. So how long have you been participating in Fantasy Football?
This is my 2nd year in FF. Last year a bunch of guys from work decided to put together a league and we decided to do a free Yahoo league to get our feet wet. This year we decided to pay money and join a CNN/SI league, and I actually think Yahoo was better than CNN/SI. We have been very disappointed.

And how many leagues are you involved in?
This year I decided to join 2 free Yahoo public leagues to see how the drafts went and who I could expect to get. Our main league is CNN/SI, and I really don’t care any about the Yahoo leagues. So I guess I am only in 1 league that matters.

And the Team Name(s). Any meaning behind them?
In Yahoo, my team names are the Runnin Rams after my favorite NFL team. In CNN/SI my team name is Trash Talking Tornadoes because I think FF should be fun and trash talking makes it better, and I tried to find a name that fit together well.

So, did you make your FFL playoffs this year?
I was one spot out of the playoffs this year. It was very disappointing after winning the Super Bowl last year. I had a good team, I just seemed to play the wrong players every week, especially at WR.

What about your best and worst pick of the year was?
My best pick hands down was getting Stephen Davis in the 6th round. In my league, RB’s are not quite as valued as in other leagues, and I just got really lucky snagging him then in a backup role. My worst pick is a tie. I took Kurt Warner (Rams bias coming in) in the 3rd round and Peerless Price in the 4th round. I did end up picking up Bulger for insurance, so that was huge for me, but who could have known Price would do so bad this year?

Great. Let’s talk about FantasySharks.com a bit. How did you come to find us from that other site?
I did a Yahoo search and went from there to FFBookmarks.com, and there you were listed as one of the top FF websites, and I have been hooked ever since.

How about your favorite FantasySharks feature or article?
I really enjoy the Player Projections, Start/Bench lists & Prognosticator at the end of the week. Then I love reading the Week in Review by Doug Coutts, as he always puts insightful comments on the weekend action.

Ok. On to the message boards. How’s the community going these days? There’s a ton of activity lately.
The community is great. This message board is hands down the best message board I have ever been involved in. Too often you get some high schooler or someone on a board that is constantly tearing everyone down and never stays on topic, and then the board gets watered down with useless posts and nobody goes any more. I have seen it happen too many times. I love the fact that every one respects others and stays on topic and nobody cuts anybody down. Truly a rare gem you guys have here.

Don’t we know it. Any particular poster that you respect the most?
I have gotten many advice from so many people, and I will probably leave somebody out, but Clayn8, Primemover, & Stinky have to be pretty far up there.

Great. Last question. Still going to be with us at 2000 posts?
I plan on being here. I will probably take a hiatus from the board after football season, but I will be back just in time for the FF draft next year.

Thanks again for being such an active poster on the message boards! And congratulations on becoming a Whale Shark!!
