Whale Shark Interview – PrimeMover

Congrats PrimeMover on becoming another of our Whale Sharks, 1000 messages on the Msg Boards!!
Well, I thank ya for that… it’s a good site to be involved in.

Ok, I’ve got to ask. What is with that Avatar picture? Very scary.
That’s me …you see… really. I am, by nature, a front-man and singer for metal bands… been in a few along the way. I was in a band called B.E.N.T. for awhile. We made an album. We did a video. The avatar is just a cropped clip from the video. The song itself was about a witch… and when your singing about a witch, ya gotta look mean. I always liked the picture, it makes an impression for sure, so I figured I use it as my avatar.

So, tell us a bit about yourself. As you say…you’re into Music.
Yes, other than being a devoted husband and father, my main focus in life when it’s not football season is music. As I said, I’ve been in bands, but I’ve been a singer since before I could walk. I went to school as a music major (though I ended up with a BS in philosophy) I was in the chamber choir and sang opera and all that neat stuff… classically trained vocalist I am. I also went to school to be a recording engineer and since I left my last band, in my spare time I’ve been concentrating on the recording arts. I write and record my own compositions… play all my own instruments… well, except for drums, but I’m good at midi sequencing, so that’s how I handle percussion. On the side, I do radio jingles and independent album production… right now I’m producing a jingle for a Milwaukee Mayoral candidate. I also just finished production on a CD of music for a worthy charity project called Heifer International. You can learn more about that project by going to

When it comes to football, my addiction can be traced to my formative years… I played on some ridiculously good football teams when I was growing up. Started playing in 5th grade and played through my senior year in high school… won a state championship at the division 1 level…had a season where the team was undefeated AND unscored upon… and over eight years ended up with a ridiculous aggregate win/loss record of 57 wins and 4 losses… it’s why I am, how I am.

Nice. So how long have you been participating in Fantasy Football?
This is my third year. Found out that I was good at it right off the bat… probably because digging for info and crunching numbers is an obsession for me.

And how many leagues are you involved in?
Two leagues. That silly Yahoo league that seems to have become something of a joke around these parts and the original Uberleague… which is really just in it’s test phase this year.

And the Team Name(s). Any meaning behind them?
The DirtMessiahs… There was a band from the Milwaukee/Madison area a number of years ago called Last Crack. I liked them. One of their songs was called Downbeat DirtMessiah. For some reason, it’s just always stuck in my head. I use it as the name for, pretty much any solo project I’m involved in. I think it works well for the name of a football team.

Indeed. So what do you think your best and worst pick of the year was?
Best pick, well… overall, I think it would have to be Culpepper. The worst? …David Boston, but I rid myself of that guy pretty quickly.

Ok. How about some NFL questions now. I’m assuming if you’re from Milwaukee you’re a Packers fan. Right?
Yep,…born and raised a Packer fan. If you’re born and raised in Wisconsin and you like football, you must be a Packer fan… if you’re not; there’s something wrong with your brain.

And your favorite NFL Player, past and present?
Well, how could I not be effected by seeing Brett Favre every week for the last years and years and not be mesmerized by his greatness. Favorite player from the past would have to be Barry Sanders… always fun to watch. I’d like to add here that when I was 8, I lived on a lake next door to Bart Starr… he took me for a ride in his speedboat… he’s ok in my book too.

Very cool! How about a Super Bowl prediction from you.
Generally I avoid making game predictions of any kind…avoid them like the plague… but in this instance, I’ll make an exception. Tennessee vs Dallas …with Dallas winning… which will cement the Tuna in NFL lore as the greatest coach in the history of the universe. (hey, it could happen)

Great. Let’s talk about a bit. How did you come to find us?
Found you though an extensive Google search at that start of the year… I may not have found you guys if ESPN and hadn’t decided to charge cash-money for all their good stuff. You see, I don’t play for money…I play for the thrill of the hunt and the glory of victory (HAR!) …I just can’t see paying for the stuff that I can come up with on my own. …and that’s why this place is the perfect fantasy football hangout for me.

How about your favorite FantasySharks feature or article?
I do like having the ability to load my leagues scoring system and my players and prospects into my account here and be able to pull scoring projections and info based just on those parameters (FantasySharks Lineup Coach)… that’s a really good feature.

Ok. On to the message boards. How’s the community going these days?
The community seems to be going really well. I am impressed with the ability of the forum to stay “on topic” and with the general lack of trouble-makers. I don’t know how many sites I’ve been to that have just fallen apart into utter chaos because of those two things. It’s a very good community. Very helpful. I also like that the board isn’t of a single mind on every topic. There is a wide range of dissenting opinion and a wide range of points of view, due to the types and differences in leagues within the membership…and I think that’s a very important part of the decision making process. Also, this dissenting opinion never devolves into name calling…and that’s fantastic. Tons of respect around this place.

I must say Tony and I totally agree with you on the caliber of the members. We talk about it all of the time. Any particular poster that you respect the most?
I’d rather not point anyone out in particular because I’m sure that I’d miss someone whose opinion I value greatly. Suffice to say, all these guys who are over 1000 posts (and several who’ve yet to reach the mark) deserve the utmost respect because they give of themselves selflessly… they get along with one another. The information that’s available here from these folks is among the best fact and opinion you’ll find anywhere.

Indeed. Ok, Last question. Still going to be with us at 2000 posts?
Yea, I’ll still be here. Hard to say whether I’ll get there yet this year, but I will get there eventually.

Thanks again for being such an active poster on the message boards! And congratulations on becoming a Whale Shark!!
Thanks… it’s been and will continue to be a pleasure.
