Whale Shark Interview – Stormtrooper

Congrats Stormtrooper on becoming another our Whale Sharks, 1000 messages on the Msg Boards!!
Thanks. I never thought I’d make it since I usually only post while I’m at work. Shhh…don’t tell my boss about this site. My carpal tunnel is flaring up now.

We’ll tell us a bit about yourself.
I’m 26 and I was born and raised in the Metro Detroit area. I’ll probably never leave, but we’ll get to the Lions later…I work. I eat. I sleep. I watch football, hockey and racing. The biggest challenge for my wife and I now is our 10 month old son. He’s a handful.

With the name Stormtrooper, I gotta believe your a Star Wars fan.
I just like the stormtroopers. I don’t really have an intellectual answer for why I picked the name. It’s part of my email address. Most of my fantasy teams get the name in there somehow. My friend and I were trying to join a stormtrooper squadron based out of Ohio. Yes, folks, they have those you wouldn’t believe how many there are. You have make your own suit, so we opted out. Cost too much money.

So, which was your favorite movie of the 5 so far?
Empire was the first movie I saw. We saw it at a drive in while we were out west camping. Don’t remember much. I love the Star Wars story. It’s a great story and it’s pretty amazing of Lucas to make the middle of the story first and then the prequil. I’d say Empire is my favorite.

As you say you’re Detroit. Lions fan then? Gotta be tough these days.
Everyone says that to me. With all the attention we get for not winning a road game in three years and going through coaches so fast, I still stand by them. I cheer for them every week and I’m predicting Super Bowl 2006. Why? Because they’ll have home field advantage.

And your favorite NFL Player? Past and Present.
I’d say Barry Sanders is my favorite player from the past. It was fun to watch both him and Emmitt run every week. The way he could make something out of a 10 yard loss was amazing and I don’t think there’ll be another back like him.

Currently, I’d say my favorite player is Joey Harrington. He’s gone a lot through his first two seasons, but I like how he hangs in there and doesn’t let anything get him down. He lashed out earlier this season for the first time and the press was all over that. That’s not normal for him. I love how he rushes down the field to the end zone when they score. It’s not often, so he can do it. Ha ha.

Any one particular player surprise you this year?
Yeah, this guy named Rudi Johnson. Where’d he come from? I’m glad he’s showing some signs of becoming a #1 RB. I’m also glad I got him on my team.

So, how long have you been participating in Fantasy Football?
This is my second year. Last year, I just joined a public league just to try it out. I wasn’t too familiar with all of the players, so I figured no one will know who I am if I suck. I ended up 5th out of 12, not bad.

And how many leagues are you involved in?
I have two leagues and one picks league (pick the winner of each game). One is a public league, which I have a 7 game winning streak in. The other is a work league that I commish. It’s a lot of fun, and it’ll be more fun once I get into first place.

Team Name(s) any meaning behind them?
My main name is the Barnyard Brawlers. In my house, we have 2 dogs, 2 cats, 3 birds and two fish tanks (120 gallons total). That’s a barn, so I created the name. We also do a little dog rescue, fostering and pet sitting, so at times, it’s more of a zoo. My work league name is the Terry Tate PainTrain. If you’ve ever seen the ads on the Reebok site or on TV, he’s a riot. Pain Train’s comin’ baby!

So what do you think your best and worst pick of the year was?
To be honest, I’ve never done a live draft. My first time will be in the Guber league next season. I’m getting good at my rankings though. I got Clinton Portis with my first round pick. I was 7 of 8. My worst player acquired was Curtis Martin I think. He didn’t get me anything for 4 weeks of starting him, so I traded him away for Tiki. That’s much better.

Great. Let’s talk about FantasySharks.com a bit. How did you come to find us?
I found a Yahoo fantasy message board in August and it was okay. This guy Prime Mover was on there and he was giving me the best information and advice. He posted one day about this site at the end of September. I checked it out and I joined that day and I never turned back. Thanks Prime!

How about your favorite FantasySharks feature or article?
That’s what I love about this site. So many different articles and option. I use the player projections every week and I also like the fact that I can put my team in there with my scoring system. I would like to put more than one team in there…Tony?

Don’t worry Tony’s definitely working on it! Ok. On to the message boards. Everyone still in a good mood over there?
Last time I checked. We’re all in good spirits. I love the atmosphere and I love the fact that no one really gets down on anyone else. It’s a great place to get advice and I recommend it all the time.

Any particular poster that you respect the most?
I’d hate to leave anyone out, so I won’t mention any names. They know who they are. I respect everyone’s opinion, they’re entitled to it after all.

Great. Last question. Still going to be with us at 2000 posts.
I have no other plans. I have to have something to do while I’m at work. This is a great site and I’m glad to be a part of it. Go Gubers!

Thanks again for being such an active poster on the message boards! And congratulations on becoming a Whale Shark!!
